Even a man who thought that women want to have sex with their fathers, and that women spend much of their lives distraught over their lack of a penis, is right sometimes. This person, the legend that is Sigmund Freud, theorized that people often have the most hateful and negative attitudes towards things they secretly crave, but feel that they shouldn't have.
If Freud is right, then perhaps men who are the most opposed to male homosexuality have particularly strong homosexual urges for other men.
One study asked heterosexal men how comfortable and anxious they are around gay men. Based on these scores, they then divided these men into two groups: men that are homophobic, and men who are not. These men were then shown three, four-minute videos. One video depicted straight sex, one depicted lesbian sex and one depicted gay male sex. While this was happening, a device was attached to each participant's penis. This device has been found to be triggered by sexual arousal, but not other types of arousal (such as nervousness, or fear - arousal often has a very different meaning in psychology than in popular usage).
When viewing lesbian sex and straight sex, both the homophobic and the non-homophobic men showed increased penis circumference. For gay male sex, however, only the homophobic men showed heightened penis arousal.
Heterosexual men with the most anti-gay attitudes, when asked, reported not being sexually aroused by gay male sex videos. But, their penises reported otherwise.
Heterosexual men who reported having the most anti-gay male attitudes were more aroused by gay male pornography than heterosexual men who had pro-gay male attitudes.
What this means is that some hostility towards gay men from other men could be down to some men who have homosexual attraction forming particularly negative views in reaction to not accepting their own sexuality.
What this doesn't mean - as I have seen others write- is that homosexuality is caused by anti-gay attitudes, or even increased by it (the study cannot even test this, as homophobia was not manipulated across conditions. It was not a study design that can test causality). The point is that these men already have this arousal naturally, but that they block it because they do not see it as socially acceptable. So they form extra strong anti-gay attitudes as a means of appearing heterosexual to others, and perhaps trying to convince themselves they are entirely heterosexual. There are, of course, loads of gay men who are secure in their sexuality, so it clearly can exist without anti-gay attitudes.
It also doesn't mean that heterosexual men who are homophobic are the most aroused by gay male pornography across all groups of people of all sexual orientations and all levels of homophobia. That is not a valid conclusion to reach based on this study; there were not even any homosexual people in the study so we have no way of comparing their arousal with the homophobic heterosexual men in the study who were aroused by the gay male pornography.
(in an earlier draft when I said homophobic heterosexual men were the most aroused, that was in comparison to the men who were not homophobic going into the study. They were the most out of the group tested - heterosexual men)
30 years ago, I did some temp work at a theme park that was cram packed with gays. One of them, knowing I was straight, tried to tell me that the more I proclaimed my dislike of homosexuals, the more I was secretly desiring to be one.
So I asked him what he thought of bestiality, specifically of having sex with pigs. He said he thought it was disgusting. After which I reminded him that the more he proclaimed his dislike of it, the more he secretly wanted to have sex with a pig. Boy! Did he drop that conversation and vamoose out of the room.
More likely that men who are not homophobic have already seen gay sex where as males that havent seen it got aroused by the sounds and not the image.... doesnt mean they want to do it it just means that other men have seen it it more and were less aroused. This study is weak
...as reported by the beautiful female lab assistant who was carefully examining them.
Do it, it starts to become a weird orientation and a weird habit.
The author of this article is a stark raving lunatic.
Isn’t it interesting that liberals discredit everything about Freud except what advances their agenda?
>>theorized that people often have the most hateful and negative attitudes towards things they secretly crave, but feel that they shouldn’t have.
how queer that psychologists often enter the field of study to figure out what is wrong with themselves
gadar is never wrong, homosexuals insist that even the pervs taking pictures in the locker rooms aren’t hitting on straight guys. Homosexuals only lust after homosexuals so if one propositions you in a bathroom, it’s because he knows you are gay even if you don’t know it. Same with the men who molest boys, they “see” it in them. Obama’s gay safe schools czar taught children about man-boy coming out stories.
Ditto. Im not hip hop phobic, or anchovy phobic, of tattooed fat dyke phobic. Those are just things I highly dislike and choose to avoid, for reasonable reasons.
Oh, come on, you know you wish you could write your name in the snow ;)
What’s barfier, the article or rubbing our noses gratuitously in it?
Anyhow yeah, projection is a classic move of Satan. What’s new. Shrug and go on.
Don’t-care-for-ic.
Sigmund Freud was a sick puppy. He initiated a revolution that made his sickness respectable. His theories are as good as Mark’s.
Bizarro.
.
I have known on!y one genuinely homophobic male, and he explained it as due to the experience as a teen of being pounced on when he was sleeping by an uncle who was visiting. He punched his uncle enough to avert the assault and leave the uncle sniveling on the floor. The tumult woke the household, and the episode deeply distressed his mother. My friend is a successful and happily married hetero with kids. He remains adamant in regarding homosexuals as presumptive predators against male teens.
Marx’s
Yeah, it was a recasting of the human drama into the context of the Greek mythology. Earlier versions of psychology used bible ideology.
You know what’s interesting. Take a look at the previous posts of this ‘Ennis85’ and you’ll see a pattern.
