This would be the first Air Force recipient of the Medal of Honor since Vietnam. They’ve been a bit stingy with that medal, in my opinion. Only four people in the Iraq war have been recipients for example, and all were posthumous. I think the criteria should be strict but not quite that strict.

Fully agree. They have turned it into a weird cult at this point. And many deserving actions are not awarded. Also this happened in 2002. It is now 2018. This did not need a 16 year investigation. Imagine taking till 1961 to decide some man in the battle of Iwo Jima deserved the award.
They cheapen it by making it this stingy. I think some of it is that the military despises awarding bravery in an era that is suppressing everything masculine in the military.
