I downloaded and printed the 10 page study.
They controlled (means compared equally) on sex, smoking, BMI and many other variables.
Given that, the low carbohydrate diet was still 37% carbohydrate, or 160 grams of carbs per day. Those of us who know Keto know that this is no low carb. The high carb dieters were 300 grams per day.
However, after 25 years the low carb dieters lived 4 years less than the medium carb dieters.
But wait: if the low carb dieter substituted bacon and dairy for their carbs, they lived even shorter lives. The low carb dieter who substituted avocado, olive oil and nuts lived as long as the medium carb dieters.
Roughly speaking.
one teaspoon of sugar = 4 grams of carbs
That's 40 teaspoons of sugar, or 13 tablespoons of sugar - almost a cup of sugar.
"low-carb"
Hmmmm. Do you know what the minimum daily carb intake requirement is?
zero
Thanks for doing the heavy lifting : )
I don’t think the study actually sampled the benefits of low carb at the level of carbohydrate ingestion they utilized so the study is very misleading to even refer to low carb vs high carb. The headlines and hype may dissuade people, from following a diet that may be much more healthy for them. Most lo carb people keep below 50gms although it’s an individual decision as to what level works best for that person.
Dietary studies are suspect to begin with because they are short term, too many variables, rely on self reporting and low numbers of participants.
Sounds like the old push toward vegan. Whatever.
I cant eat nuts so I will stick to good meat from healthy animals.
