So you’re saying it’s basically symbolic and they aren’t allowed to access current info?

Brennan has a “right” to a security clearance for life.

Not a right, but a perk of having been a CIA Director. I believe it's by tradition, reviewed every five years.

Also, as such, a former director is required to behave as if still an employee of the CIA.

Brennan has not, so bye-bye.

All I know is that I, and a vast majority of Americans can’t sleep at night knowing that Gov Hacks are losing their security clearances. /s

It’s only a story in D.C and among the political class. Your experience is the experience of the rest of the country.

Even if Brennan denied he was leaking classified information, his security clearance while at a media job is bad news. It gives the weight of "in the know" to any of his treasonous bile which he spews on air.

I'm shocked that anyone not still in the positions that require security clearance haven't had them revoked immediately.

I hope there's a very large pile of revocations first thing tomorrow AM, before the Deep State succeeds in enlisting a rogue judge who's part of the coup to try to stop it.

The whole “investigation” by the “special” counselor happened because Comey leaked info to a professor who had clearance. If the government used a policy that probably all other companies used that would have been illegal.

Mr Brennan, along with a whole mess of other DC Swamp Critters...seems to have forgotten he is employed by We the People.

Back when I had a security clearance (TS with assorted alphabet nonsense), normal people needed both a clearance and need-to-know in order to access classified material.

I got my security clearance in 1955.
The need to know was stressed, and it was made clear you had no business getting involved in anything that was not directly a part or related to your assignment.

Also if you had a close relative that was problematic to America you may not get the clearance. If you had traveled voluntarily to certain countries you may not get the clearance.

That leaps out to me in the case of John Brennan, the Muslim sympathizer, communist voter, and voluntary traveler to Islamic countries. How did he get a clearance? - Tom

Brennan is a member of the RULING OLIGARCHY, and as such any privileges, once granted, are NEVER revoked.

Until now.

Also keep in mind that his security clearance is how he gets to see privileged information even after he is out of power.

Now, if somebody passes him information, they can be prosecuted for it. And also, he was probably a conduit for the media getting information, just as Comey’s buddy at Columbia was.

They’ve got a nice little gravy train going, which is coming to an end because the people saw through the usual games and put in power somebody that wasn’t one of THEM.

Does anyone remember that Pompeo wouldn’t be confirmed over the weekend and Brennan (and others) had an absolute hissy fit that he wouldn’t be held over for the weekend? Park was sworn in for 3 days. I always figured he had something he wanted to clean up and didn’t get the chance to.

From another thread, it appears that there is "Clearance" and "Access". Clearance is basically the verification that the subject is trustworthy and allowed to see or know certain things. Access would be the delivery of those certain things. The underlying reason to keep "Clearance" open for 2 years after a subject leaves the employment that would require such clearance, they don't need to go through the entire start-up process if they get re-hired.

"Access" is related to the provision of actual secret stuff, and ties back into "Need To Know". Why a retired or fired CIA director NEEDS any secret info is an entirely different discussion.

And Need To Know should be treated with respect. If somebody on the inside is feeding a former employee like Brennan stuff he does not need to know, that action should be criminal and the person doing the feeding should be dealt with severely.

On a higher level, this practice of keeping clearances open needs to be reviewed. The most secure practice is to void them all, and grant exceptions as needed. In an open forum; sunshine is the best disinfectant.

This nonsense with Brennan is because he kept shooting his mouth off and acting so important; he was an easy target and a great example of why the current practice needs to change. In short, Brennan is an idiot and has acted like one.

There is a great explanation of the monetary value of the security clearance by Dan Bongino. He explains why “the swamp” is fighting back because it will impact them personally.

Go to his site Bongino.com and play the first 20 minutes of Episode 787.

Having a security clearence allows him to leak or be a conduit of a leak. So, someone in the CIA can call up Brennan and tell him a secret, because Brennan has a clearance you are not breaking the law. Brennan gets rich at CNN and leaks get out.

But Brennan is highly partisan. He is leaking for political gain and financial gain. There is no reason why he should still have s security clearance. And there is no reason why such a partisan should ever been appointed to head up the CIA.

When Jimmah Carter became president, he asked the head of the CIA for information on UFOs (I hear it was leaving director George HW Bush)

Carter was told it is on a need to know basis and the potus does not have a need to know that.

And they always cancel your clearance, when you leave. Why would this guy be special?

In 1965 a friend of mine and I got (student) summer jobs with TWA at Cape Kennedy (Canaveral). TWA had the contract for mail delivery at the Cape.

You couldn't even touch mail marked "Confidential" or "Secret" or "Top Secret" unless you had the corresponding security clearance.

My friend's clearance was refused for several weeks because he had subscribed to several communist newsletters during high school when writing a paper for Civics class.

Pretty strict. There were huge lists of subversive groups that you had to swear you had no connections. I wonder if it is the same now?
