“However, the transmission and tune-up guys would screw their own grandmother.”
As would all the sales pukes in any dealership.
I would think to do other wise would be like High School(in my day) & putting a “Kick Me” sign on yer back only this would say “Rip Me Off”
You got that right.
Why in the world did you let her go without you? Especially since you know she “is a kind-hearted and somewhat gullible woman in this arena”?
I learned about purchasing cars from my grandfather, who was a manager at Chase Manhattan Bank corporate in New York City. When he was ready for a new car, he put out the word that he was looking for a three year old car that was well maintained. Through the years, he bought like new cars from his customers at about 40% less than the new price, and paid cash.
Just a warning - unscrupulous car dealerships are still alive and well.
No shit.
Just like demonrats.
I took my wife car shopping years ago. She fell in love with one. It had just been taken in on trade. Hadn’t even been detailed yet. I whipped out my black book and made an offer. Salesman wanted to go through the whole manager thing. I said nope. Here is my number and what I am willing to pay. We walked. 2 days later we got a call. We threw them a curve by showing up with a trade in. They overvalued the trade in.
Be smart. Only buy a car in the last cpl of days of the month. Look for an inept salesman. They have likely not made their quota yet. I would guess we came out about 5 K ahead in the transaction. Also, another hint. Talk about financing and then show up with cash. Have them detail the car on their dime and insist on a full tank and oil change/rotation.
Buyers can be sharks too.
When we go in, both of us, we know what we want, how much the trade in is, and what we will pay. After the sales person does his little write up and hands it to us, we write across it what we will pay (which includes tax, title, & license). When he (or she) says they will have to get an OK from the manager that they have one chance to get the sale .... our price.
About 50% of the time they will take the deal, especially when it is the end of the month and model year. In the other cases, we get up and walk out. They generally call for a couple of days afterwards realizing that we were serious .... we explain to them that they are not the only dealer and if we purchased a vehicle we let them know that they missed out and why.
Youre not being a chauvinist. Women are scientifically proven ! To be more agreeable. We tend to want everyone happy and dont wish to push things.
One of the many reasons we dont belong in the military.
We have other strengths.
I’ve had truly excellent experiences across the board at various Honda dealerships throughout the country, however, I never deal with sales guys on the floor, but always go through a fleet salesman, or the owner/dealership manager ...
one of the keys of course is to know how much a car is actually worth, whether new or used, and either offer a fair price (where you know the dealer will make $500-$600) or offer a price where the seller has to dicker upwards on your offer ... the last car I bought, my offer was accepted without dickering, and the one before that the fleet manager asked me if I’d go up $600.00 so they could make a profit, to which I agreed ...
Thankfully, I don't care about add-ons and I walk in with a pre-approved 1.75 percent financing from my credit union. The last car I got was a one year old Toyota from Hertz Car Sales, one owner, clean Carfax, and 2K below Blue Book.
Buying a car any other way would drive me crazy.
“William Macy deserved an Oscar for that movie.”
absolutely ...
Car salesman to my wife: $65,000
My wife to car salesman: Is that all? :-(
CarSense. Never going anywhere else again. A pleasure.
“Another trick is to leave you sitting for a while at some step in the sale process. That’s when I get up and do to the first person I see and tell them to tell the guy I’m waiting on that he has a few seconds to lose the deal. That gets action. I ask him then, “Why were you letting me sit? Was something more important that this sale?” Then they get real nice for a couple minutes.
“
funeral salesman use that same trick ... and your response works the same in that case as well ... they pulled that on me one time and i told a receptionist our family was going outside to call a different funeral home on one of our cell phones while we waited on the salesman ... salesman zipped out in a hurry and we reached agreement on price pronto ... and yes, funeral salesmen are basically like used car salesmen and you CAN negotiate funeral costs ...
Why weren’t you there WITH your Wife. You are a jerk.
I second the recommendation to use carproshow for DFW area.
