An Ohio officer shot his police dog after it attacked him, leaving him with serious bite wounds, the Columbus Police Department said.
Officer Brian Carter underwent surgery at a hospital and K9 Benzi, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, was humanely euthanized.
Carter was correcting Benzis behavior through verbal commands at the departments K9 office Saturday morning when the dog suddenly turned on him, a Columbus Police spokesperson said in a news release.

They must be running out of dogs to do that.
How much time will he do for shooting an “officer”?
It was a slow day. He couldn’t find a golden retriever to pop a cap into
“Carter was correcting Benzis behavior through verbal commands at the departments K9 office Saturday morning when the dog suddenly turned on him, “
Apparently, Benzi did not like what Carter said.
However, I’m not one to belive that a dog would attack his master because he did not like what was being said.
That leaves us with Carter hit or was otherwise abusing the dog.
Dogs tend to be pretty good arbiters of “good” people.
Ping, here is a story of a police dog supposedly attacking the handler. ‘Correcting his behavior through verbal commands.’ Holding pattern until believability is attained, at least for me.

Officer Carter is full of crap.
Impossible. It wasn’t a pit bull.

Or it leaves us with “the dog was unstable”.
If he was screaming or bellowing commands right in the dog’s face I could see it I guess? But they sure take pains to stress that the discipline was verbal, ha. Not sure I buy it.

I’m not going to make any other comment other than to say that a Belgian Malinois is a very high strung and energetic canine, and one really needs to be very skilled in order to handle one.
I’d personally rather stick with my Shepherds, and they can be a handful too.
Talk about a bad day at the office...
What can you say to a dog to offend him to the point of violence?
“Im not going to make any other comment other than to say that a Belgian Malinois is a very high strung and energetic canine, and one really needs to be very skilled in order to handle one.”
Yup. More info is needed all around.

This would be a Cop on Cop shooting and execution of the canine by medical staff.
The LE dog was deprived of his Civil Rights under Color Of Law.
Call it a pussy
If you make it a legal issue, I believe the human officer was involved in self-defense.
Makes you wonder however, if an officer had to kill the dog for self-defense, what about civilians.
Because if a dog is capable of murder (see the self-defense defense), then that introduces a whole other ballgame to the dog breed in general.
In my opinion.
