More than 18,000 people marched Saturday in Paris as part of an international mobilization to show popular support for urgent measures to combat climate change in advance of a San Francisco summit.

Crowds overflowed a plaza in front of City Hall before marching east to the Place de la Republique, carrying an urgent message that it’s up to the public to put global warming at the top of the political agenda.

“Planet in Danger,” read some banners.

Activists around the world encouraged “Rise for Climate” protests before the summit taking place Sept.12-Sept. 14. California’s governor proposed the event after President Donald Trump vowed to pull the U.S. out of a landmark 2015 climate accord.

The international agreement was negotiated in France, and the French capital’s march was more successful than ones held Saturday in other French cities or elsewhere in Europe.

Environmental groups said the organized hundreds of events around the globe Saturday to highlight the issue. …

This global warming/climate change thing has been around since the 1980s/1990s. It was urgent back then too IIRC. 30 years on the same old record plays and keeps skipping and repeating.

“Amazing. Their home is being overrun by barbarians and they think global warming is important.”

You hit the nail on the head. These people are insane.

Breathing emits CO2. I suggest these people show their sincerity by committing seppuku.

There was a march about climate change in Paris? What if we didn’t give a good crap about it? The French will protest anything at the drop of a croissant or squished snail (Escargot).

Who cares? They never seemed to protest when we kept liberating them from the Germans.

I think France has round out of Charlemagnes (who happens to be a direct relative of my late father-in-laws French side of the family).

What I say to such people :

Turn off your air conditioners, your heat in winter, stop driving your cars, ditch all those electric appliances you constantly use — DO THESE THINGS if *YOU* actually want to do something about this issue.

Funny thing is they go silent, and then start either trying to change the subject or shrieking at such a suggestion.

Funny - everything makes them hot under the collar and they interpret the heat as proof of globull warming...

Why don’t the “urgent measures” these people advocate ever include their making the personal choice to reduce energy and other resource usage?

Millions of us who don’t give a flying freep about “climate change” make these choices every day, because we’d like to spend less on our utility bills.

As in the musical Camelot, pass a law defining every day as a nice day! See? The climate will be fixed, just like that! Urgent action! What a-holes. Thanks Olog-hai.

Karl der Große was as much "German" as "French" - a distinction that did not even exist back then...he's buried in Aachen (that's in today's Germany, FYI)...

Here in S.E. Michigan, I played softball last Wednesday and it reached 90 degrees.

Played softball this morning and it was only 53..........I'll take the 90 any day.

I just went through a week of 90-95 degree days with no air conditioning. I’ll take the 53 and open all the windows.
