76-year-old tries to attack son with chainsaw, son runs him over with lawn mower

BRISTOL, Tenn. – A Tennessee man lost one of his legs after his son, trying to fend off the 76-year-old’s chainsaw attack, drove over the older man with a lawn mower, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

The father, identified as Douglas Ferguson, of Bristol, now faces a charge of attempted second degree murder, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.

The incident happened June 28, but, because of the severity of the injury, authorities weren’t able to serve the arrest warrant until Tuesday.

Officials say Ferguson’s son was mowing the front lawn when his father went after him with the chainsaw. “The son defended himself against the attack by running over the suspect with the lawn mower,” according to an SCSO press release obtained by the Kingsport Times-News. “The injuries that the suspect (Ferguson) sustained were as a result of the lawn mower striking and running over him.”

Ferguson, who was found bleeding from his leg and head, was taken to the hospital where doctors amputated his leg.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office said the two men have a long-running feud.

Ferguson was jailed on the attempted murder charge and for violating parole related to a previous aggravated assault, according to the Times-News. Bond was set at $25,000 for the attempted murder charge.

I can see it now:

Father: "I'm gonna chop you up and stack you like cordwood!"

Son: "Your ass is grass, old man!"

In Wisconsin, we drive our lawn mowers for everyday transportation...AFTER we’ve lost our Driver’s License. ;)

A man who is strong enough to wield a chainsaw can’t outrun a lawnmower?

Probably one of those zero turn mowers...

It’s not easy! Beau’s parents sound like yours - they will NOT leave their (fairly isolated) farm, either, and in an emergency, none of us are really close enough to make a difference. It is what it is. As long as they don’t hurt anyone else, I guess it’s Live and Let Live.

With my Dad, FIRST I had to get him to stop drinking - which was easier once I took his car away! Then, I got ADRC involved, and we were assigned a Social Worker, and while she WAS like Nurse Ratchet, she got the job done. God Bless Her!

I just kept telling him; ‘We’re on a waiting list for this FABULOUS apartment for you!’ And when that finally happened, I just started moving his stuff OUT and got him in the car and told him we were going to the airport to fly to the gulf to catch a cruise. ;)

My zero turn goes about 15 mph at top speed. It can pop it’s front wheels off the ground going from a stand still to full forward.

Lol. I have a lot of grass.
