DU | 10/15/2018 | DU commenters

DU Title ("Cherokee Nation: Warren's use of DNA test 'inappropriate,' 'wrong'") they posted from the Hill

They are unhappy with both the Cherokee Nation and the Hill now.

Typical comments (edited for profanity)

Vinnie From Indy (10,287 posts) 4. XXXX this jackass named "Chuck Hoskins" Who the XXXX is he to claim ownership over anyone's lineage?

LiberalFighter (36,505 posts) 36. Until Elizabeth Warren attempts to apply for Cherokee status he should STFU. He does not have any authority until then. It appears that he was trying to stir something up that he has no jurisdiction.

Coventina (18,183 posts) 43. It's called science. She has a Native American ancestor. Unless she is demanding tribal rights and privileges, there's nothing for them to complain about.

Raster (18,853 posts) 80. Senator Warren HAS NOT tried to claim tribal status or benefits... ..and only sought to verify her heritage. Senator Warren verifying her DNA has nothing to do with Cherokee "law and honor," and EVERYTHING to do with the Tribal government seeking to limit anyone they deem not Indian enough.

George II (30,785 posts) 10. Day by day The Hill is becoming more like Breitbart.

Yellowdog88 (42 posts) 9. Somebody please... Post this guy's condemnation of 45 when he hosted code talkers and invoked the Pocahontas slur. I'm sure it's out there.

brush (19,858 posts) 45. Sounds like somebody got paid.

Amimnoch 18. Perhaps they could muster outrage for Perhaps they could likewise muster some outrage for the constant, continuous “Pocahontas”, ? Or, on this exact same subject, the President’s call to TAKE this test as proof? Let’s be clear here, she isn’t using the test as a means to prove heritage, or claim benefits from heritage. This test was taken as a result of a DIRECT CHALLENGE from a sitting president, and said orange Hitler is the one who qualified this test as an acceptible result in HIS own words.

delisen (2,965 posts) 32. she is not claiming to be descended from the someone on the Dawes rolls is she? She has the right to publish her DNA test, does she not? How would she be interfering with Cherokee law? I think we all have the right to speak freely.

To read it yourself Google search for text : democrat underground Cherokee Nation: Warren's use of DNA test 'inappropriate,' 'wrong'

It comes up first for me

Trump sure played Warren on this.

If she never lied and was never supported by PC Higher Ed institutions it never would have been possible. She created this mess.

The Cherokee Nation has blasted Liz Warren for this before. She has no documentation, no birth certificates, no wedding certificates, nothing to validate her claim. And for the Cherokee Nation, that is what is required. The Federal Government and the B. if Indian Affairs requires the applicant to be a member of a tribe, to have a family genealogy of proof, and be of at least 25% Native American to be able to identify. Liz’s .09% percent of a DNA sac is actually no proof of anything.

Someone posted a photo of Pocahonky’s recipe from Pow Wow Chow on here the other day. At the bottom it says “Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee” and just looks so damning since she is now trying to morph the narrative to “she has a Native American ancestor” from “I’m a Cherokee”

That photo should go viral.

RE:”The Cherokee Nation has blasted Liz Warren for this before. She has no documentation, no birth certificates, no wedding certificates, nothing to validate her claim. And for the Cherokee Nation, that is what is required. “

What about her Mom telling her how tough it was (for her) to be a Native American women living in a white man's world?

And teaching her all those Indian dishes to put in her book?

She says her racist grandparents opposed her parent's marriage.

oddly enough no one, yes no one backs up her story. None one of her relatives backs her up. Why? Because it’s all BS. She lied, and now she has been proven a liar

Trump Harvard University sure played Warren on this.

Trump hasn't said anything people all across the world weren't already saying.

Decades ago, Harvard University offered prestige and a fast advancement track to any Native American who would apply as part of their advancement of identity politics.

A blonde of weak character connived to take the prize since nobody was attempting to vet the applicants.

So here we are today. Trump didn't put her there, he wasn't the first to criticise her, and the number of people calling to hold her accountable was growing without Trump. Trump has benefited, but this particular circus and monkey are not of his creation.

Oh no, I have created a great sin of racism. Because Harvard University (the founder of our schadenfreudal feast) decared Elisabeth Warren "a person of color."

This well timed article from Scientific America really undermines Liz:

"When it comes to ancestry, DNA is very good at determining close family relations such as siblings or parents, and dozens of stories are emerging that reunite or identify lost close family members (or indeed criminals). For deeper family roots, these tests do not really tell you where your ancestors came from. They say where DNA like yours can be found on Earth today. By inference, we are to assume that significant proportions of our deep family came from those places. But to say that you are 20 percent Irish, 4 percent Native American or 12 percent Scandinavian is fun, trivial and has very little scientific meaning. We all have thousands of ancestors, and our family trees become matted webs as we go back in time, which means that before long, our ancestors become everyone’s ancestors. Humankind is fascinatingly closely related, and DNA will tell you little about your culture, history and identity."

Sorry, I regard DU as unfriendly territory, a fever swamp filled with some very concentrated vitriol, and would not venture to allow ANY information about myself to appear in their sign-in procedures. So I have to rely on second-hand information about what they are really talking about over there.

The Orwellian Two-Minute Hate that just goes on and on. Once transformed, they simply cannot find their way back to dry land.

Trump sure played Warren on this.

He did indeed.

Trump's style of being absolutely real and saying exactly what is on his mind and his general lack of inhibition is going to drive the Democrats crazy and help his fellow Republicans.

By being a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of personality (which is BTW typical for an outerborough New Yorker), Trump forces his competitors to play on his field of battle. If they don't, they look stiff and contrived.

Regarding Lizzie, he gave her only two ways to respond to his attacks. She could hold back and look stiff and cowardly OR she could get into the octagon with Trump where he has the advantage that comes with his naturally playful and pugnacious personality and his experience.

Even other members of the GOP are learning to emulate Trump's style of "just be yourself." Just looks at Hatch's tweet about his T-Rex ancestry and Graham's give'em hell rant in Committee.

Look at Sen David Perdue taking the cell phone away from a student at Georgia Tech last weekend.

Trump's leadership is teaching Republicans that it is OK to be brave.
