From this teen, we lost the house, however, I think we'll be in great shape for 2020. The Dems do not have a plan except to impeach and let ILLEGALS in. What we need now is to find great candidates who'll be ready for 2020...I believe that people will be sick of a Dem controlled house...

How many seats did we lose...? At least we flipped IN, FL, ND and MO in the Senate...

The Democrats ran a good campaign in my area. They have nothing to run on, so they managed to win a lot of races in my state by campaigning without making a single promise or even discussing a single issue.

Democrats have lies which are extremely effective and for which the Republicans have no real counter other than denial. Republicans believe creating jobs and prosperity will get them elected, forgetting that as soon as they do, people will move on to other issues like health care which the Democrats dominate.

Republicans have short term wins and no goals, Democrats have short term loses and long term goals - which will eventually create a true Socialist America.

Sucks to be under 60

[Don’t make the mistake of overestimating the appeal of conservative politics in all of these districts. A lot of these “RINO” House members — like mine — were RINOs because that’s the only type of Republican who could win in these districts.]

That tax bill cost the GOP big time. I got screwed over on taxes. I voted GOP anyway. But the typical independent (and many a RINO) will probably look at his tax bill and decide to make his local GOP pol pay.

Mueller doesn’t report to Congress. He reports to the Deputy AG, and under the special counsel rules the Deputy AG has no obligation to submit his report to Congress.

It’s similar to the feeling I had when Obama won a second term.

I understood the “historic” election of that smarmy butthole - but after he had four years to prove to Americans that he couldn’t tie his frigging shoe-laces without help what do they do... RE-ELECT HIM so he can make things even WORSE.

I’m not nearly as pessimistic as you are, but - yeah. I don’t know what else Trump could have done. I guess half the country just doesn’t want America to exist anymore, and has been so dumbed down by the RAT “education” system and propaganda media that they literally can’t tell up from down, even when their own lives are at stake.

I just DON’T understand why Trump capitulated to his “friends” in Congress who asked that he put off funding the wall until after the election - what a stupid move. Now it’ll never happen.

Good point. The biggest reason the U.S. didn’t get a single-payer system under ObamaCare is that Pelosi is owned by the insurance industry. She’s going to have enough trouble dealing with the growing lunatic fringe in her own party.

It takes 2/3 of the Senate to remove a president. That will not happen.

The tax bill gave a tax cut to at least 80% of the voters in my state, but they voted overwhelmingly for Democrats because ... well, I have no idea why. The good news is that these same voters are most likely to vote for Republicans in 2020 again when nothing changes between now and then.

Maybe he’s just not that into the wall. Just as he was not that into DACA deportations that he promised to end by executive order on day 1. Politically, I have no idea how it would have played out. But Trump decided that he was going to make a show of trying to end DACA by having Sessions call it unconstitutional* instead of simply issuing an executive order to end it.

* Since as a matter of law, only the courts can declare something unconstitutional, this was promptly eighty-sixed by an Obama appointee.

Health care is a big issue. Thanks to McCain the GOP fumbled repeal. In addition the GOP never came up with an alternative or replacement for Obamacare. Due to the inept handling of repeal the public sees all of the negatives of the health care mess the Affordable Care Act created as now being owned by the GOP Congress.

GOP leadership ignored the issue after McCain’s treachery but the public didn’t Polls show it was one of the top concerns on voters minds. Pelosi and the Dems played on voter anger over healthcare in this election while Republicans focused on immigration and the economy. For a struggling middle class family, the economy is only as good as your own financial situation. If rising costs of healthcare (insurance premiums, copays, deductibles and pharmaceutical costs) are offsetting your tax savings from the tax cuts, the GOP Congress doesn’t look very good.

It isn’t just healthcare costs that are rising. Anyone who shops for groceries knows the real rate of inflation is higher than the government inflation statistics and 2% pay increases. Food manufacturers are again reducing content in containers in as a way of hiding price increases. Energy prices are rising again. Housing prices are extremely high and unaffordable. Property taxes and insurance costs are also escalating well beyond the 2% inflation rate. To young people saddled with massive student loan debt, a Democrat talk about student loan forgiveness is very attractive. The situation on the border is of little concern to someone in the suburbs 1000 miles away loaded with debt and struggling with rapidly escalating costs of the basic necessities of life.

The hard reality is 50% of the nation pays no taxes. Fifty percent of the population receives a government check or subsidy. People who receive welfare, Obamacare premium subsidies, social security, Veterans benefits, government pensions, tax credits, or other government benefits are not going to give up their claim on the treasury and are going to support politicians who promise more.

The GOP had 40 retirements in the House so no incumbent was running in those races. Voters picked the candidates in those races who promoted policies that would benefit them. What exactly was the GOP message in the congressional races on healthcare, inflation, high cost of college education?

When you have no message and the other guy is offering answers, who gets the vote? Congressional races are local, not national. The Dems did a good job of talking to people about the issues impacting their daily lives and pocketbooks, Republicans didn’t. Pocketbook issues win.

I’ve been reading your rants for a long time, and I’m trying to remember a single prediction you’ve made that has actually come to pass. Wasn’t Trump supposed to be impeached and removed from office more than a year ago?

There is no impeachment going on. Of anybody.

All you have to do is roll thru some of these races to see that a bunch of these seats were won by a fraction of a percent or so. The NBC site has been particularly good and easy to navigate tonight (just have adblocker on) and you’ll see what I mean. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2018-election/midterms/ca#house (just an example, you can choose by state & office) Many of these are swingy districts and some, GOP leaning districts. It’s one thing to vote someone in to keep a check on a president, it’s quite another to appear to be removing someone you couldn’t beat at the ballot box. Especially with another presidential election right around the corner. Moreover, with a definitely more Trump oriented Senate, impeachment would be some sort of suicide pact for these new house democrats to go on record voting for, knowing the chances in the other chamber are exactly ZERO.

Pelosi might be a dumbass on policy, but the woman can count.
