That is why operating businesses in certain environments is just a waste of money; “food deserts” didn’t spring up out of nowhere. The residents still have to shop - but they have to do it in areas with functioning police forces. My town has no shortage of arrests of Newark NJ residents trying to steal outside of the welfare reservation.

Who wouldn’t call the police in that situation (where people simply walk away without paying)? It is a CRIME - and the paying customers end up footing the bill.

In my younger days, there were still ethnic clubs in my town where Irish, Scottish, or Portuguese people could socialize with their own. A few still survive, and they are immune to this BS; nobody walks out on a tab, because they are either members themselves or guests of members.

Giving it away for free guarantees that business will have MANY future losses...

You pay McDonald’s Wendy’s and taco bell before they give you food. Same with dunkin donuts.

The low life was planning to “dine and dash” and even invited friends to come and partake. The manger was correct in what she did, maybe just off on the timing. She should have called the police when they would not pay.

It could be, but nevertheless, it’s still insane and the rest of my post holds.

Generally, sit down restaurants have you pay after the food is in your belly.

But in my experience, most fast food places make you pay before you get the food. Where's the beef with that? Just treat everyone the same.

CHipolte is like Subway in that you order the food, then they prepare it as you watch. Then you pay. These guys were going to grab the food after it was made but before paying. They had the week before. That’s why she wanted the money before even making the food.

Let’s assume a “customer” orders, the food is prepared, the “customer” can’t/won’t pay, the food is not delivered, and therefore has to be thrown away. Since the “customer” has received anything of value, the restaurant can’t file a criminal complaint. The manager was probably tired of taking a dead loss on food that had to be pitched, due to jerks he/she can’t charge criminally.

I wonder if some “customers” figure on getting free food when members of their group work the counter in corporate restaurants... I’ve seen this in action in other contexts.

Name me a fast food place that doesn’t require you to pay before you get your food.

Waffle House
IHOP

These muslims are very good at whining.

They will make American companies open jewish death camps by crying about the jews

It is the Hagar strategy

I’m puzzled. Any Chipotle I’ve visited has asked all customers to pay when ordering. Was this one different?

It sounds like a setup to me. How many times does someone video ordering a meal.

I don’t consider those fast food places per se. Those two cater a lot to folks coming and sitting down like a restaurant.

Chipotle is not only a take-out place. Neither are Whataburger, Taco Bell, Taco Cabana, Wendy’s, McDs, J in the Box and most others.

I sometimes get take-out at Waffle House, ...though I prefer to sit in a booth and casually eat a meal (with free coffee refills) and smoke my cigs.

Pretty stupid of the Chipotle manager. What they needed to do was to change it so that everyone pays in advance. Looks like this was a set up job.

That’s a reasonable interpretation of the data.
