An Ohio father punished his daughter by making her walk five miles to school in 36 degrees after she was thrown off the bus for bullying. Matt Cox of Swanton said in a Facebook post that his 10-year-old daughter was suspended from the school bus last Friday. This was the second time that she had gotten into trouble for bullying. The young girl told her father that he would have to drive her to school for an entire week.

When I was a kid, it was 10 miles, uphill, both ways, in snow 8 inches deep (all year) ... and we were lucky to have FEET to walk on...

lived in cold climate and my parents thought nothing about me having to walk to school in the cold but I was not 10 years old I was 13-14 years old... I question the wisdom of sending a kid out that far at a young age. the cold part is no big deal if the kid is bundled up properly.

Hard to abduct a kid with dad following the entire way.

OTOH, in uber lib Austin, TX they let little kindergarteners on city buses by themselves - https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3710912/posts. What could possibly go wrong with a 5 year old alone on public transportation?? Yet, libs are getting upset with this father.

This is another B.S. “look at me, look at me” story that today’s sick MSM loves and unfortunately so-called social media promotes. The video is staged. The kids being filmed walking while being followed by a car shooting the video. Attention seeking family.

Bullying is a learned behavior. What is the source ?

Not always. sometimes parents who go the “attachment parenting” route wind up with 2 year olds who are already effective bullies and are never dissuaded from it.

I clicked on the link. He followed her in his car, recording the whole time on his cell phone.

Had a two mile walk from age 8. I had a bus I could have waited for. On a cold day you would freeze waiting for it. By walking you generate heat, burned calories and stayed warm. I enjoyed walking.

Well see, that’s my point, if I had to follow her, I’d still have to pay the consequences for her behavior.

So I’d probably take away her cell phone, TV, after school dances etc. Ground her for several weeks from all things she loves.

I’d still drive her to school, but I’d never shut up about it. I’d be crabby all the way. She’ be begging to walk.

"Bullying is a learned behavior."

Actually, no. Many species exert dominance over others of their kind. Kindness is a learned behavior. Go to the beach and paint a seagull with a splotch of paint. The other seagulls will torment it ruthlessly, pecking it, screeching at it. Where do you think the term "pecking order" comes from? Your statement is progressive pablum.

“Bullying is a learned behavior. “

That’s progressive talk so the kid can blame her behavior on someone else.

I walked to and from school every day, whether it was -5 or 90, from 5th grade through high school.
Several of my grandchildren also walk to school. It builds perseverance. It’s a good trait to have when life hits you with a problem the Democrats can’t solve by taxing your neighbor.

IMO, five miles is too far for someone that young. I did 1.5 but I was older at that time.

2-3 miles would be the outside of my suggested range.

So, taking away the benefits might work better. BTW, I agree, following her puts him in jail with her, hardly a decent ending.
