I guess we disagree as to what a 100% tax means. Your suggestion that $200 would have to be sent for $100 to get through sounds like a 50% tax to me.

“Good idea except for that part. Those states are run by commies who shouldn’t decide”

But the idea is that we ignore those States.

There are 650 million acres owned by the federal government — including in the East.

The US Government owns over 13% of Florida.

So if a State doesn’t want to participate, screw ‘em.

The point is to sell tracts of land WHERE the State and local interest groups would support it.

Why try to help States that don’t want to be helped?

But some land would be appropriate for sale to the State government, the County, or the general public

Sell what they can and give the rest back to the states and disband the National Park Service.......

It’s not owned by the U.S. government. It is held in a trust.

Someone mentioned a 100% tax on all money wires going into Mexico. That would raise the money in a month.

A 100% on all money wires going into Mexico would bring in revenue for about 1 day. After that no one would use that method, and find other ways. An offshore business would make a fortune wiring the money for them.

More alcohol was produced during Prohibition than before the government instituted it - a great boon to organized crime. That's why it was repealed shortly afterwards. A 100% tax would be tantamount to Prohibition.

Now, a more reasonable tax - e.g., 25-50%, might work. But again, ways may be found to skirt even that tax.

The original theory was that if the Trump Administration shut off the $53 billion that are sent EACH YEAR to Mexico and Central America, Mexico would negotiate to pay for the border wall to keep the $53 billion PER YEAR flowing into the coffers of Mexico and Central America

And with a 100% tax imposed on all money wires going into Mexico, the Mexican government would laugh themselves silly, as they (or some other entity) set up offshore wire transfer businesses to circumvent that imposition.

People whose knee-jerk reaction is to tax something never consider the behavioral consequences, or the ways in which groups find ways (legal, illegal or extra-legal) to avoid them. Then, when it doesn't work they're gobsmacked.

I have no problem using the cartel’s money for this. There is plenty of it already “due processed” and being spread around various law enforcement agencies, much of it not very usefully.

Absolutely, President Trump should redirect all of it he can towards the wall. Ted Cruz’s EL CHAPO bill would streamline it.

But there is absolutely no reason to try and do and end run around due process procedures when the spigot is already wide open. We just need to put a hose on it and redirect it.

The democrats will eventually find themselves in control of both chambers of Congress and the Presidency again someday and I prefer that we not have gutted our due process protections when the pendulum swings again.

I am seriously grateful for the window of opportunity Trump was given in rebalancing the Supreme Court. It will probably be his most enduring legacy.

“And with a 100% tax imposed on all money wires going into Mexico, the Mexican government would laugh themselves silly, as they (or some other entity) set up offshore wire transfer businesses to circumvent that imposition.”

The way this SHOULD be done — the way that it was originally proposed in a little-noticed, quickly forgotten briefing paper from the Trump campaign it would not matter where the money was sent to or directed.

However, that is fairly complex and inside baseball.

I am tempted to write an article on it but I don’t want to lessen the pressure for the Democrats to fund the border wall.

The original proposal was not a tax, but to raise the “know your customer” banking requirements so that illegal aliens would be prohibited from using any financial services.

This can be done — very easily.

It was already the law that banks must “know your customer” by demanding identification.

The USA Patriot Act DID NOT CREATE but EXTENDED “know your customer” requirements to jewelers, diamondtares, pawn shops, and “Money Services Businesses” (MSBs) such as Western Union, MoneyGram, and many lesser-known examples.

It is ALREADY the law that all of these institutions must “know their customer” by demanding identificaiton and information.

But these rules are not being enforced because the US Treasury provided for a grace period, transitional period.

That transitional period never came to an end.

What Trump’s campaign originally proposed — which was incomprehensible to people not in the business — was that “know your customer” anti-money-laundering requirements must include checking citizenship status

“I am seriously grateful for the window of opportunity Trump was given in rebalancing the Supreme Court. It will probably be his most enduring legacy.”

But as a lawyer myself, I said even before Kavanaugh was confirmed, it won’t be enough until Trump can replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg and maybe another.

Too many “conservative” judges are establishment Republicans. And “conservative” judges honor precedent meticulously, while liberal judges rip up the precedents and the constitution

That’s a good point. Maybe that would be the best way to go, as long as the federal government retains some rights to natural resources in case needed for national security in the future.

There were real estate listings for ranch land at $43,000 per acre in Arizona.

Given that prime midwestern farmland tops out at about $10,000 an acre, I'd really like to see what Arizona ranch land is worth $43,000.
