This song was banned by the BBC. It came out during the same month that Britain declared war on Argentina over the Falkland Islands, and many ships and Royal Navy Fleet were traveling around 10,000 miles from Southampton to the South Atlantic in order to engage the Argentine Military — and when the song came out, the British Government thought that it would demoralize the sailors.

Love Neil Finn!

The gentleman second from the left in that photo (Neil Finn) was one of the people brought in to help replace Lindsay Buckingham for the current Fleetwood Mac tour. Not sure if Neil is a great fit in that band, but he is a talent in his own right (Split Enz, Crowded House, solo).

Actually, the guy in the middle of that photo, Tim Finn, brother of Neil, is also a very good songwriter and has had some success over the years, although not as much as his younger brother.

And Neil’s son Liam looks EXACTLY like his Uncle Tim!

Sounds like ELO, but not as good.

During some other kerfuffle, the Fleet wanted
eliminate BBC broadcasts on their ships entirely.

I don’t blame the British Military — the BBC is demoralizing in every aspect, then and now!

Another song that was banned by the BBC was “Invisible Sun” by The Police, about the ‘troubles’ in Northern Ireland in the 1970s.

That’s why Pirate Radio flourished in the 60s there. They played all the stuff the BBC banned.

Exactly! I wish I had been in Britain from approximately 1976 through 1988. So much history - music history - in the span of 12 years. From Punk Rock to New Wave to Metal.

Good tune. I liked them back in the early MTV days.

I like the Misty Mountain one he did for the Jackson movie. Never saw those movies except for the first one long ago.

They definitely have the ELO sound in this particular track.

I think it's a very good song and their music overall is well worth exploring. "I Got You" was the one big hit from them in the U.S. but there are many other great tracks to be discovered.
