An American woman who divorced her Saudi businessman husband is now trapped in the country with their young daughter because of the Kingdom's restrictions on women.
Bethany Vierra, who is originally from Washington state, has been living in Saudi Arabia since 2011 when she moved there to teach at a women's university, the New York Times reports.
The now 31-year-old met her future husband there and they married in Portugal in 2013. They have a four-year-old daughter together.

She forgot to watch the Sally Field movie “Not without my daughter”
Idiots
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
+1
“... originally from Washington state” could have something to do with it
should be required viewing for any Western woman thinking of moving to the Middle East

yup
The book was even better.
Won’t be surprised if that movie gets banned by Amazon.
Too effin’ bad.
Sucks to be her.
We really do not give a ***t.
yes, reminds me of the Sally Field movie.
As I recall in that movie, the daughter was the property of the husband, and that’s why Sally Field couldn’t legally take the daughter out of Iran with her, per Islamic law.
Indeed, not very smart
1) Married a Saudi in the first place
2) Should have not mentioned a word about “divorce” until she was out of the country with the child.
“...something in the water.”
The daughter is the one I’m feeling sorry for here. She had NOTHING to do with her mother’s stupid decisions.
send that AOC to rescue her,,
The kid is a Saudi, leave him there. She made her bed marrying an enemy, let her now deal with it. Not our problem.
The daughter is a Saudi citizen and is where she belongs, in Saudi Arabia.
Don’t know if it’s possible but maybe she should take her daughter and try for a land crossing out of Saudi Arabia - hopefully not at a border checkpoint.
I suspect that for the right price she could find someone to help smuggle both mother and daughter out of the country.
I wish her well and hope she has learned an extremely valuable lesson.

A key lesson is don’t marry a Muslim. Don’t marry someone from a Muslim country. Don’t go live with him in that Muslim country. Because sooner or later, your westernized values and assumptions about life will clash with his and with Islamic law.
