...The government, they felt, wasnt doing enough to protect the lake. And so they wondered: What if the lake could protect itself? The idea they hatched that night ultimately resulted in a special election, which had the citizens of Toledo voting Tuesday on a very unusual question: Should Lake Erie be granted the legal rights normally reserved for a person? The measure passed easily, which means citizens will be able to sue on behalf of the lake whenever its right to flourish is being contravened that is, whenever its in danger of major environmental harm...If the stakes felt almost unbearably high for the activists who pushed for the Lake Erie Bill of Rights, its because this was the first rights-based legislation aimed at protecting a whole US ecosystem: the lake, its tributaries, and the many species that live off it. The law isnt without precedent, though. Its part of the nascent rights of nature movement, which has notched several victories in the past dozen years.

All of Minnesota?
If Lake Erie has rights it should sue Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. for its plan to deface the lake with six 500-foot tall wind turbines.
Free college tuition for Lake Eirie!
Erie should keep a sharp eye out for EcoSexuals.
Can Horses as Senators be far behind?
Lake Erie needs to have protection. Sewage and agricultural runoff aren’t taken seriously enough. Particularly in the western part of the Lake (near Toledo) algae blooms are a problem most years.
That is one of my favorite historical quips, so I’ll repeat it: Michigan and Ohio fought a war for control of Toledo. Ohio lost.
About damn time, I’m suing Erie for all that lake effect snow. Maybe toss in Lake OntArio as a co-conspirator.
I’m going to marry lake Erie.
Lake Erie also has the right to merge with Lake Ontario, but Trump want to ban same-element marriages.
Guess hes having the last laugh.
Well then, if the lake (the citizens of Toledo) has rights, it also has responsibilities! For example, if a lake effect snowstorm harms me in any way, I should be able to sue the lake (citizens of Toledo) for my damages, no?
“Minneapolis, all of Minnesota, “
HEY!!
In the old days, men were happy to live free and didn't mind carving out a life in a colder environment like the northern border states.
I'm 71 and too frail for that climate so I married a Filipina, just in case they steal the 2020 from President Trump.
And I think the climate is what has kept good, Conservative people out of Minnesota .... we just don't want to work as hard as we used to.
I've said this a hundred times ... We have been successfully woosified and terrorized.
The sooner we look in the mirror and decide to do something about it, the sooner we get our nation back.
What if it doesnt identify as a lake, but as a desert. Will the state pay to perform the physical changes.
same legal rights as born alive babies right before they get aborted?
my lake, my choice- abort
Already does...
So now I can sue Lake Erie?
And what about the other 4 Great lakes, Niagara Falls and the St Lawrence River?
