Apples iPhones are expensive bits of kit. So when we see one pulverized in a blender we cant help but feel a little sad.
However, in this case, it was for science. And good science as well: scientists were blending the blower in order to conduct a chemical analysis of what it contains. A team at the University of Plymouth carried out the blending in order to show the quantities of rare or so-called conflict elements in the phone. Heres a smartphone in a blender, thanks to the University of Plymouth (PA) Its part of a plan to encourage greater recycling rates. Thats because every year, 1.4 billion mobile phones are produced around the world. Dr Arjan Dijkstra, lecturer in igneous petrology, said: We rely increasingly on our mobile phones but how many of us actually think what is behind the screen? When you look, the answer is often tungsten and cobalt from conflict zones in Africa.

“I don’t often pulverize my iPhone in a blender;

Actually, an eBay "parts only" iPhone 4 can be bought for under $15.00. . .

Aren’t these phones built in 3rd world countries by..um...”young” workers?
You forgot the year long salary of the “scientist” conducting the experiment.
IBass-0-Matic?
Yes, that’s true. And not just one person.
18 people on staff from 2 Universities were dedicated to this critical study. White Papers and dissertations to follow.
But the lack there of would.
Leave me empty inside.
Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out.
Find nothin’ but faith in nothin’
Wanna put my tender IPHONE in a blender
Watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion
With apologies to Eve-6
Will it blend?
Add 1/2 banana and a cup of strawberries, viola! An iSmoothie!
DAMN, what a waste of our hard-earned taxpayer monies!
Yeah, that’s a worthless experiment using such an old device. I’ve seen youtubers do better stuff...
They are assembled in China, Brazil, and India by workers aged 18 to approximately 32 years old. . . and no Apple is aggressive in keeping under-aged workers out of its supply chain. They are built from parts made in various countries including the United States, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Africa, and about twenty others.
