Lynx and cat; Twelve Years of True Friendship

1

Lynx named Linda was born in the Leningrad Zoo in June 2007 and soon people brought a cat neighbor into its enclosure. Linda and Dusya have been together for twelve years, they live in peace, harmony and friendship.

2

3

They were of almost the same size when they met, their interest for each other was obvious. They were left to play together under surveillance of zoo employees, then alone. They never tried to aggressively attack each other.

4

The purpose of the experiment was to show zoo visitors the difference in behavior of a lynx and a domestic cat.

5

But Linda and Dusya both behave like ordinary cats, they lick each other, fawn and play. And Dusya feels safe despite the fact that its friend is now much bigger.

6

7

8

They receive many different toys, but the favorite for both is an ordinary empty box.

9

Dusya does not like people to caress it and shows a comparatively wild character, in their couple it is the cat who takes leadership.

Lovely animals. They look relaxed and content. It just shows how important companionship is.

People are really that dumb to not see friendship and love in animals.

This quote from Mark Twain is not about cats, but I think the principle applies here:

“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.”

I would imagine what conversations the two have. Lynx says something along the line I have to search, and hide hours a day to catch and find food. The cat replies I just meow and look cute and those stupid humans give me all the food I want.
