Wow, that’s too bad! I’m sorry to hear that.

My maters are growing rapidly, my sugar snap peas are 6’ high on their trellises, my garlic is high and ready to flower, my lettuce and chard are bolting, darn it, my cantaloupes and honeydews are kind of stagnant, they really aren’t growing.

My zukes are exploding, though!

I hope your garden does better next year. Last year my corn, broccoli and strawbs all died on the vine, awful year for them.

See ya’,

Ed

We took the cover off this row of corn today. We planted lettuce between the plants on this row...

Your garden is sooo beautiful!

What do you do to keep slugs away?

I’ve always used Sluggo or Bug-Geta but it seems like no matter how often I apply it they still get on the lettuce or whatever I don’t want them on.

Is this a lot stronger?

I have a cat and I quit putting that stuff out because we had a raccoon that was eating the snails. I could see where he washed them in the little bowl of water I put out there.

The bowl was always flipped over and had lots of empty snail shells nearby. There are a lot less of them for sure but I still can’t plant lettuce at least until I kill some more of them and it dries out around here.

I think Rocky Raccoon might have met his demise because I haven’t seen the bowl flipped over in a few weeks.

I guess I’ll have to order some of that stuff.

I’m going to miss that little guy.

Thanks for the tip.

:)

Slugs and Snails are a real problem up here in the Redwoods. Slug baits are not as effective since Commiefornia regulated them to oblivion...

PS... Try stale beer in a shallow container to drown the slimy critters

I figured anything that actually works wouldn’t be available here.

Expecting an email from Evil, Inc(Amazon)cancelling my order.

WalMart wouldn’t ship a freaking kitchen island to California because of the finish.

This state is regulated to death.

Tubebender: Your garden is so organized and lovely!

Freemama: We finally had a few dry days, too! We got a LOT done this weekend. I still need to get my Glad corms in and I have a flat of onions to tuck in here and there.

Considering that it’s taken me a full MONTH plus a few days to get the garden in, I’m pretty pleased with it now.

I’ll share pictures later in the week; taking Dad to see a Surgeon today to have a cyst on his ear removed; it’s always something! :)

We had a, for the most part, dry weekend here in Central Missouri. Folks around us were not so fortunate. There have been numerous levee breaks and over-toppings along the Missouri River over the past week. Farms, homes, roads, and a few towns are under water.

I tilled the weeds in the kitchen garden and got the last of my tomato plants in the ground on Saturday. If the rain holds off I plan to sow kale and collards sometime this week. A few hills of squash and canteloupe might be nice too.

Spent most of yesterday building a block wall near the new steps at the front of our house, and hauled some compost up for Mrs. Augie to use in one of her flower beds. She still has two flats of native perennials that need to be stuck in the dirt. She started with six flats so I have to admire her determination. The place should be a butterfly and hummingbird 5-star resort by the end of summer.

I got a chinese apricot, a hardired nectarine, a dwarf freedom apple, an enterprise apple, a bunch of daylilies, a bunch of glads, I went kind of nuts LOL.

I subscribe to ‘Ice Age Farmer’ on youtube. Lots of info there. I don’t know about ‘shortages’ but food might get more spendy. Especially meat and dairy.

Wisconsin Expected To Host Increased Number Of Monarch Butterflies

https://www.wpr.org/node/1455721?fbclid=IwAR3qUc8CF5wfD4UQUgkcIcmiMudqwkbFraefLBoRIOvyukLOo4bzf9dgoF4

I am so ready! We have a ton of Milkweed that we’ve added through the years and let self-seed just about anywhere it wants to.

So far I have seen 2 Monarchs, a few Yellow Swallowtails and a few Black Swallowtails. Only a few Hummingbirds this season, too - I think they had a hard time getting through all of the RAIN in Texas and then the middle of America on their way up from Costa Rica. :(
