Matt Damon and Christian Bale try to make racing history in the first trailer for Ford v. Ferrari

The first trailer for Ford v. Ferrari starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is out.

The biopic tells the true story of how in 1966, Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) and Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) tasked legendary auto designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Bale) to design a car that will defeat Ferrari at the legendary 24 Hours at LeMans race.

The result was the Ford GT40, which became the first car ever created by an American company to win the iconic race.

I don’t recall Iacocca being involved in this at all.

I saw a documentary on this a few years ago and it was estimated Henry Ford spent around $200 Million in 1960’s dollars to win. I don’t know what that is in today’s money, maybe a $1 Billion.

I would enjoy this movie except for Damon, all of his recent movies have tanked, bad casting.

I had a professor in the 60s who had raced at Le-mans.

From Caroll Shelby's bio: "Shelby was married a total of seven times...Shelby married his final wife, Cleo, a British former model who drove rally cars, in 1997, just four months after the death of his sixth wife. She was 25 years his junior. They were in the process of getting a divorce when he died in 2012."

And in accord with a Ford tradition, the winner at the 1966 Le Mans could have been any color as long as it was black.

The Hollywood ‘left’ are so unimaginative that they can’t even make any kind of original ‘movie’.

Too bad Damon is in the movie- won’t be watching it- I’d rather just read the history of the rivalry than support that trump hating- America hating ‘actor’

I met Carroll at Purdue University in the 80s. I had a picture of a Shelby Mustang that I took and got it signed by him. The picture had an attractive model leaning against the car. He asked if that “was my girlfriend” and I replied “I thought it was yours?” He said he “didn’t believe so but he would check and get back to me!”
