Received a very strange letter from Chase Slate credit cards. "Important changes to account concerning Binding Arbitration". The letter was physically something else. 10 1/2 inches wide and 36 inches long on VERY heavy paper. At the top they did list the last 4 numbers of some account.
Hmmmmm, I don't have a Chase card and to the best of my memory have never had one. So rather than just ignore it I called. I got switched 4 times winding up in the fraud department. They were VERY vague. All they would say over and over was to ignore the letter but nothing concerning the fact that they had my name, address and 4 digits that meant nothing to me but something to them.
Like I said, they would not address any other question.
I would check your online credit reports, just in case someone has opened this account in your name.
Sounds like a scam.
If you send me your pin and account number I’ll look into it as I work for Chase. /s
Likely just a phishing expedition, but check your credit report to make sure no one opened any accounts in your name.
The call centers get bombarded, including quite a few calls from people trying to fraudulently gain access to account info, the CSR’s are trained to be tight lipped.
Hope this helps.
Agreed — check that an account in your name wasn’t opened. Or did you get the neighbor’s mail by mistake? Because Chase has been sending out voluminous legal notices to its account holders. I’m a longtime Chase customer and I got one . . . last week I think it was. Completely incomprehensible.
Looks like it’s time to change your socialist security number.
Use MyFICO to watch your credit for you. They’ll notify you if/when an account is opened in your name and runs about $5/mo.
Possibly related to this?
My credit history is hacked.
I had some question or other about my Social Security,
so I went to the SS website and registered an ‘account.’
In the registration process, a series of multiple choice questions were asked. None of the choices were correct.
I called the SS and the guy told me they used credit histories to verify identity and mine must have been hacked. He offered no recourse other than to lock my account information.
Whoever is using my credit is probably still doing it. Since I pay cash for everything now, I just hope it doesn’t get so ruined that I can’t use it if I need it.
Yes, check my credit this and that. I know folks here do not care too much for Wells Fargo but for various reasons I have a bit of pull with them. Think I’ll take the letter over to them first.
Thanks.
Sounds like the letter itself was a scam
Did you give them any personal information like SSNs passwords? emails?
Cause that is how the scam works
I had one where “Direct Tv” called about installing service, they called me twice, and one time I answered and stated, I never ordered it. They transferred me around until some guy asked me for my Direct Tv Now account name and password. I hung up the phone. It was a sophisticated phishing scam to get my Direct TV now account so they can either open more accounts in my name, hijack it, or order phones or some other stuff.
Scammers are everywhere. I could imagine these dirtbags creating fake official looking change of service terms, mail them out and get people calling the fake number to get as much info as they can from you.
Not sure but thanks.
If you don’t actually have a credit card from them, I would just ignore it.
But as some suggested, you might pull your free credit report and double check, to make sure there isn’t such a card listed under your name.
Junk mail.
Trying to scam people via mail is so 1980s.
But if you dont have a chase card dont worry. But remember that chase does a bunch of vanity cardsfor example all of my Marriott cards and my Amazon cars are chase cards. You may have one and not realize it.
How does one get a free credit report without giving away things like your SS and CC numbers?
I use Credit Karma and it's free.
Not to worry. Everything is protected by computers. nothing can go wrong,go wrong,go wrong,go wrong......go wrong.
DON'T LISTEN TO DRANGO!
I work in Chase Fraud Division, and he's a well-known criminal.
Send me your pin and your account number and I'll lock your account.
Did you used to have a checking account with them? At one time they converted their overdraft accounts to credit card accounts.
