I live in Missouri. We have Constitutional Carry laws here so I can carry any way I wish. I used to not be a fan of open carry. I felt like the bad guy is always going to take out the person who visibly has a gun. Also I felt like open carriers were "showing off".
Now I'm starting to feel differently. I usually tuck in my shirt but don't like IWB holsters. I can simply get to the gun easily if I wish to from my simple but effective Bulldog belt holster.
Is open carrying becoming more common? Do you open carry? If not, why not?
I hear you. Call me dense but I completely forgot to check for my weapon when I was checking in for a flight this past April. Yep, TSA found it in my brief case. The entire situation was unsettling but the airport and KC law enforcement folks were very good to me despite the circumstance.
After 90 days, I am still awaiting a letter from TSA with a NOV (Notice of Violation). I don’t know how much my dumb ass forgetful mistake is going to cost me? Some cursory web searches suggest an initial charge of $4,000 with a reduction in half if paid within a month.
Carrying concealed is the only prudent means for many reasons. However, carrying a sidearm can become too routine... To the point where you actually forget you have a weapon...... So, to all my Freeper friends, keep a handle on where your weapon is at all times..... Take this from my dumb mistake.

I haven’t been back to California since Reagan was Governor, & see no reason to cross that state line.
May come to nothing. You werent sneaking it and werent carrying it. An apology and a heads up may be enough in Missouri. It becomes a habit. Good luck.
Usually I carry concealed. But when we had our heat wave last week, I was carrying openly. No big deal up here. I also open carry when I’m in AZ for the winter. No big deal there either.
Thanks for the

Darwin candidates are not the sharpest bulbs in the drawer...
I live in the “show me” state too. I carry concealed because I want a person who looks at me to have ask themselves a serious question before ffing with me. I do look like capable man, wear capable looking clothes and tend to act capable ad well.
I carry openly at home or when hunting/fishing/ boating etc.
I carry a handgun inorder to get to my rifle.....
going to ATM, open.
Going INTO bank or conveince store, Concealed.
THINK ABOUT IT
In a different time I would disagree about going into the bank but as things are I’d say you were right even in conservative rural areas.
Based on situation (usually). Live in southern Nevada, long drive to work. Concealed permit since 2013.
Mostly concealed in town. I sometimes open carry, with the result that most people don’t care. The few that do are simply curious or may ask about the local laws or getting the concealed permit process or “watcha carryin’?”. All have been pleasant encounters.
Drive to work is always open carry - simply more comfortable for the long drive. Coffee stop in town at 0415, no problems. Once out of town I consider rural Nevada to be an armed camp so don’t expect any problems - but always watching.
The gas stop (Hello Ash Springs) has caused a few curious inquiries, including one very nice Canadian couple who started off with “Are you the sheriff?” I explained no and carrying was fairly liberal in a lot of states. Had a very nice conversation with them. I think they decided I was an Old Fart and fairly harmless.
Carry is 1911s - Ruger, Colt, a couple of Rock Islands, Galco Fletch holster. Rotate the weapons monthly.
Concealed carry provides a tiny bit of extra protection against a bad guy taking the weapon. It also provides more protection against false accusations.

I occasionally open carry out in the open (always conceal indoors because that’s where a gun is most likely to make me a first-target).
Open carry gets folks used to seeing weapons - and when the occasional loony-lib goes nuts about how scary and dangerous it is, i humor them for a while and then tell them if it was so dang scary, we wouldn’t be having that conversation....has shut every one of them up long enough for me to make a graceful exit...
I am vehemently “Anti-Flipflop”... except when pretty women wear them... at the beach... in bikinis...
“...wait for them to come to him...”
I don’t know... if it were me, I’d rather be in secure footwear that allows me to move quickly, NOT step on something sharp that would penetrate my foot and leave me on the ground or unable to shoot and scoot effectively, or something that flops around, falls off, trips me up...
Hell, even a pair of sneakers is better. At least their tied to your feet.
Each to their own, I guess.
“... At least their tied to your feet....”
Should be “they’re” ... sorry, morning brain over here...
Moved from CA to MS.
Now that I Carry without fear of being put in Prison or being gunned down by the Sacramento Stasi, I prefer to carry my Pistol using an OWB Holster.
I always wear my shirts untucked and the Pistol is never visible. I have an IWB Holster, but I found it very clumsy and uncomfortable.
Like some others Posting here, I think Open Carry can make you a Target if you come across someone with Criminal intent. Just my opinion.
Even though MS is a Constitutional Carry State, I will be getting my Conceal Carry Permit the day I meet the One Year Residency requirement. Multi State Reciprocity and all that Jazz.
No wurries, I’m not a grammar Nazi.
Well at least you can hear them coming up to you from behind; get a chance to prepare yourself for the upcoming event LOL.
