Neil Armstrong's Most Significant Steps Weren't On the Moon

More than two decades after his first moon walk, Armstrong visited Israel where he didn’t chart a new path, but followed an old one.

In 1994 he was brought to a place in the Old City of Jerusalem and asked Meir Ben-Dov, his host and noted archeologist, if Jesus himself actually would have walked there.

“I told him, ‘Look, Jesus was a Jew,'” recalled Ben-Dov. “These are the steps that lead to the Temple, so he must have walked here many times.”

Armstrong asked if these were the original steps, and Ben-Dov said that they were.

“So Jesus stepped right here?” asked Armstrong. “That’s right,” answered Ben-Dov.

“I have to tell you,” Armstrong said to the Israeli archaeologist, “I am more excited stepping on these stones than I was stepping on the moon.”

COOL!!! A friend used to work for him at UC and he was a wonderful, humble man.

There's a wonderful video on YT of several Apollo astronauts, along with several of the management-level engineers who worked on the Apollo command and LM systems, in a panel discussion on the subject of the technical details of the Apollo missions.

At the end, there are questions from the audience. One of the students is a relatively young kid, and he asks "do you think I'll ever be able to go to the moon?"

There's a murmur from the audience, and some off-mike back-and-forth between the panel members. Finally, they hand the mike to Neil Armstrong, who says: "when I was your age, I didn't know that I'd go to the moon."

Huge applause, and that's where the video ends.

Forgot to mention, the event shown in the video took place at MIT.

Not many things anymore get me choked up with extreme pride for our great country anymore but this is one of those times. I am going to try to watch as much as I can. We landed on the Moon a month after I was born.

“”“I am more excited stepping on these stones than I was stepping on the moon.”””

I know just what he meant. There is a ‘special’ connection with Jesus when you can be in the various parts of the Holy Land where His feet most likely trod.

I know the feeling. I walked upon those same steps in 1984.

Which one had the coded message for his boyhood next door neighbor who had once told him someone would be ‘on the moon’ before he was successful or whatever???
