The main point, however, is that talent is talent. For NPR to invest in a program of music of which the ONLY qualification for inclusion on the playlist is the sexuality of the composer, is just stupid.
And so is teaching “LGBT History” to impressionable children. Whether Eli Whitney was “straight” or not has no bearing upon whether or not he invented the Cotton Gin.
My generation went through this same thing with “Black History Month”. George Washington Carver invented Peanut Butter. Big Deal.

They can’t read or write or do math but they know how to be a freak and a stupid one at that.
As the parent of a homeschooled child (now aged 35) I can name a number of reasons. Our daughter went to public HS for 3 years, so I have extensive experience with the school system because I was very much the activist parent.
1-most parents have no idea what is going on in pubic (not a typo) schools.
2-a certain percentage of parents actually agree with what is going on (progressive fools)
3-a child must have a stable home life with two committed parents of the opposite sex.
When she did her 3 years of HS (before graduating at 16), she told us that in one class she was the only student with her two biological, married parents.
4-the parents must be willing to sacrifice economically to have a stay at home parent
Also, most people don't understand false economics of a working wife when there are several children. Unless the woman is making VERY good money, it doesn't really make good $$ to have 3 kids in day care and public school. That's a subject for another post.
My wife got her first car at 17 and her second car at 52. Yep, she drove her 1972 Dodge Demon every day for 35 years.
5-the parents have to become very adept at dealing with the public school bureaucrats because they roadblock homeschooling when they can
6-some parents who like the concept are intimidated by the prospect of teaching academic subjects, they feel they are unqualified

7-most parents are unaware of the wealth of homeschooling resources and support available
8-sadly, there are also some parents who are just plain lazy and don't care about their children. As in the case of one member of my extended family, the kid is really just a hairless puppy. Food and shelter are all the parents believe they are responsible for.

Government schooling has never been neutral. It is impossible to have a religiously, culturally, or politically neutral education. Such a state of philosophic neutrality is impossible in the mind of any sentient human.
For this reason government school is ( and always has been) a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination.
