Labor Day came about because workers felt they were spending too many hours and days on the job. Like many liberal initiatives the name of their programs are often antithetical to their objectives; shorter work days and weeks was what the unions were protesting for. Why don't we call it Indolence Day?
I am protesting labor day. (working tomorrow).
American works don’t know the meaning of a 40 hour WORK week. It is work to put down their phones to ask if a customer needs help.
The neighbor does not put out his flag on the Fourth of July, because that is now racist. I put my flag out on Memorial and Veteran Day as well as the Fourth of July, but not on Labor Day.
By the time I enlisted and served in Vietnam the left had appropriated Labor Day to celebrate the Soviet Union. While I was still working as a college finance VP, I went to the office on Labor Day and labored on our audit. Veterans Day was not an official holiday, but I habitually took it off. I also made sure the vets in my department knew I would approve vacation.
One time I considered buying a flag for the old Soviet Union and putting it out on Labor Day, but my wife said that was really, really not wise.
Because May Day is too Communist...
I’m working tomorrow just like any other day, and I’m not getting paid double-time. If I wanted an “off day”, I can take that anytime I want.
Why is it the focus has always been on the date of the Declaration of Independence. Not when we were actually officially recognized as an independent nation An officially created country seven years later I believe.Done at the Paris Accord on a day and month that ironically centuries later was nearly the same as when WWII officially ended on the Battleship Missouri, Yet both dates occurred on September 2bd remain unobserved.
The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America, Adams wrote. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival
It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
**I hope some day Labor Day is changed to Free Enterprise Day.**
Ditto from an entrepreneur!
Thank you. President should sign a declaration proclaiming April 15 National Free Enterprise Day.
Labor Day is retarded. Just name it last day of Summer Vacation season.
because the oaks were just too lofty and they grabbed up all the light
Since unions have far outlived their purpose, Labor Day is unnecessary.
I celebrated today by doing some labor. I replaced on of my old single pane basement windows with a glass block window. Tomorrow, I’ll do the other one.
Me either. Lol.
I’ve always acknowledged it as a union/socialist/communist celebration of labor fighting against management, but I grew up in a union town.
My laborers get the day off with no pay. Of course, my workers are paid commission only, which we all prefer over salaries or hourly pay. They bring in money for my company, they get their agreed cut of the money. They spend their money the way they want. They pay their own taxes, buy their own insurance, contribute to their own politics, charities, etc.
