The Hurricane narrative is not correct. Forget the headlines. Look at the data here.

If you go to www.wunderground.com you can find individual weather stations owned by private individuals and companies like you and me. They buy their own instruments and feed it live to the wunderground.com. They provide some ground truth independent of government and MSM.

The last time there was a supposedly major hurricane the ground stations showed much less wind. Sure enough, the damage was way less than the MSM and government had been talking about. Now with Dorian they seem to be doing the same thing.

The data from Weather Underground stations match Windy.com which match Ventusky.com. They all show much much less wind than the alarmist MSM is saying. Ignore the headlines. Look at the data.

The Station at the Zoo at West Palm Beach Florida is here: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/fl/west-palm-beach/33401.

The PGA Station at West Palm Beach is here: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/fl/west-palm-beach/33401

Look at their forecasts.

You can select "Change" near the top to pick another local weather station. See for yourself and share.

Ventusky.com, Weather Underground and Windy.com all agree with the same much more modest current readings and forecasts, and do not match the headlines.

If you look at the changing narrative through the days, it is pretty much the usual.

Florida wiped off the face of the map in a week!!!

florida to get not quite hurricane winds.

Florida to get tropical storm.

Florida to get tropical storm warning.

Florida to get floods from rain.

Florida to get rain.

Florida to get drizzles.

Florida to be party cloudy.

Best beach day of the year for Florida!!!

IMO, the presumption is government LIES.

Trump himself is an exception IMO.

What about the drop sondes and aircraft reports? Winds are usually lesser at the surface due to friction.

I hope it just goes back out to sea and fizzles over the colder water.

Off topic I know, but why does this group call themselves the “Weather Underground”? The Weather Underground was a domestic terrorist organization. Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn were key people involved.

Are they trying to be cute with that name?

Don’t know, but their weather reporting is pretty damn accurate. I use it in Iraq and it’s still damn good.

I wondered about “Weather Underground” too but that’s where I get my weather report. It’s always accurate. Our local news gives me weather from downtown, and I’m just two miles but 1200’ higher elevation. www.wunderground.com

I suspect they are the “weather underground” because they are not “official.”

No on the name thing.

It started as just a group of weather enthusiasts. The underground part was just a play on terms for all the laymen involved. No one is a commie or a terrorist as far as I know.

You can buy your own weather station ($100-200) and feed the data into WU just like the OP said. I have a weather station on WU.

“The last time there was a supposedly major hurricane the ground stations showed much less wind.”

So, I guess you’re saying wind speed for Hurricane Michael was exaggerated? I had multiple family members in the Panama City Fl. area that rode out the hurricane, and the wind speeds were not exaggerated. Mexico Bch looked like an atomic bomb had gone off, and Tyndall Air Force Base was nearly blown off the map.

The weather channel as always is very entertaining, the girls were all dressed up for clubbing. Two on either side of the grand map pulled out a cylinder one pulled the cord neither of them had a clue how this sensor device works but continued to pull out the cord which was attached to the small parachute and then just gave up. Remember back during a similar incident one of the alphabet stations had a reporter in a canoe telling us how bad the flooding is and in the background a guy walks across the screen with boots on water no deeper than a foot. Who need Comedy Central

The hurricane passed directly over Marsh Harbour International Airport. The highest reported wind gust for the last 12 hours was 46 mph. I don't know much about weather but that seems rather strange.
