Most of the major problems I have run into in recent years come from Symantec.

Most of the major problems I have run into in recent years come from Symantec. Back in the early 80's, Peter Norton was my hero -- his Utilities saved the day more times than I can count. When Norton sold the Norton name and product line to Symantec, it went straight into the crapper and became just another turd circling the drain.
Back in the late 80's, McAfee was a good package. After John McAfee sold the McAfee name and product line to Network Associates, it went straight into the crapper and followed Norton.
Do we see a pattern here? :-)

Something else must be going on. Microsoft does not own McAfee. They have their own product, Windows Defender.

They cost more initially but the value stays higher and they just keep working. I've got 10-year-old Macs that are still in production work, albeit with older versions of the OS because their hardware can't support the newer versions.

It is disturbing that any post Windows NT 3rd party software can crash the OS. I have seen OS crashes in Linux and MacOS as well. Thew sandboxing cannot be 100%.

I’ve used Norton Utilities since the late 90s, and now Symantec since they bought out Norton, and have never had any kind of a problem. Norton 360’s saved my 2009 HP Compaq 6000 Pro Microtower many times.

Just switch to a Etch a Sketch. East to fix. Just shake it it up and down to reboot.

An op system that allows a program running under it to crash the op system is a poorly designed op system.

McAfee is one of the worst products out there.
It doesn’t do much except eat resources.

My cabled internet connection “drops” all the time, for no damn good reason.
Sometimes, I have to unplug/plug and it fixes it, other times a total reboot.
There are infinite pop-up ads happening in the lower right corner of my screen, no matter where I am, and I have no idea where they’re coming from or how to turn them off.
MalWareBytes says nothing is amiss.
I loathe and despise this OS with the passionate intensity of a thousand white-hot suns.

I uninstalled the factory trial that came with the laptop and it STILL nags me to upgrade/renew/whatever.
Can’t find where to kill it with fire, or I would.
