This reminds me of a few years ago when my dad showed me his 1950 college yearbook. He asked, “What DON’T you see?” There was not a single obese person to found in its pages.

What changed?

One possible thing, in the 50's everything was sweetened with sugar, in the 1980's the soft drink industry transitioned over to HFCS, to save costs when protectionist tariffs boosted the price of domestic cane sugar.

As a country we can date when we became "corn fed" heifers to that transition.

Correlation is not causation.

But every farmer knows if you want to fatten livestock, you feed them corn...

When that chair breaks it will drive a leg, well. You know.

She needs to swear off of restaurants and other source of groceries for a loooong time.

“I remember having this out-of-body experience,” she said.

I'm still waiting for the punchline.

“For people who identify as large, plus-size or fat...”

People with anorexia nervosa tend to identify as large, plus-size or fat even though they're starving themselves to death.

Calorie restriction diets work.

To a degree. If you cut calories to the point where you aren't getting the necessary nutrients, that will wreck your health. Aim to eat at a slight caloric deficit, but cut out the processed crap and make sure you are getting your nutrients. I think Keto is the way to go, but other diets will work as well, pick one and make it work.

Had to google ‘size 30’. Whew. I’m 5’-7, male, 50yo, 36x30 pants and I feel uncomfortably overweight. I need to lose 30#. Having to lose 100# or more... man...thats gotta be rough.

The bleeping Government Food Pyramid which was influenced by lobbyists is the biggest culprit.

Exactly. If she had planned ahead, knowing that she runs into such problems, she could have asked for a table.

Instead everyone else is supposed to share in her frustration as if its our fault.

That photo reminds me of an old joke our teacher told us way back in 1960. He drew a cursive W with a pole sticking down out of the middle, and asked us what it was. No one said anything.

The answer, “KING FAROUK sitting on a bar stool.”

Most will not get the reference.

“Calories eaten - calories burned = calories added to weight.

This is immutable fact.”

Wrong. Incorrect. Disproven.

The landscape is flat, therefore the Earth is flat.
The seen is often not true.

I went to a get together at a restaurant last year. The food was excellent but the chairs were murder.

The back had one support across the scapulas but nothing below that, and I need bracing for my lower back. Never been back.

I’ve heard some restaurants make the chairs uncomfortable in hopes you will eat and run, making way for more customers.

As we were taught in power plant basics, ENERGY IN=ENERGY OUT. Excess energy, such as coal or oil, is stored till it can be used and is measured in calorific measurements.

Food energy in(calories) must equal energy out. Excess is stored as fat for future use.

America is so fat.

You go to Vanderbilt clinics now and all the waiting room chairs are double sized what they used to be

I asked my doctor about it she grinned and whispered “we’re not supposed to notice” and rolled her eyes

She told me 40% of America is obese and some groups the rate Is twice that

Just to compare sizes:

So she's even bigger than the one on the left.
