On this date in 1996, Billy Bailey was hanged for murdering an elderly couple in Delaware.

Bailey was condemned in 1980, which was before Texas debuted the lethal injection trend that would sweep the nation; therefore, he was sentenced to hang. When Delaware switched to injection in 1986, Bailey had the choice between his original hempen-necktie sentence or the newfangled gurney.

Hanging as a form of execution in the U.S. did not last occur as far back in the past as many might assume.

Epstein did not kill himself! Wasn’t that more recent?

We still have Adam Schiff. Hang him! and then give him a fair trial.

Color me puzzled.

I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago. I was wheeled into the operatory, given an injection and I was out like a light. Anything after that point would have quickly done the job without cruelty.

Yeah, that’s pretty obvious to most folks. People get “put out” all day every day. Then the doctors do their stuff, and the person wakes up in the recovery room. It’s really no big deal. And if we decide that they shouldn’t wake up, they would never know.

The issue of “humane” execution isn’t an issue at all. What it boils down to is: some folks want to kill babies and don’t want to kill murderers.

What IS it about that feeling one gets right after a shot that puts you out. It doesn’t last long enough!!

You were put out by a nurse anesthesiologist.

Execution needles are basically administered by people off the street. Doctors and nurses typically don’t participate.

So it’s given by someone untrained in administering it and no knowledge of dosage and are at a complete loss to correct if something goes the slightest bit awry.

Kinda hard to know when something’s not working right when you’re not monitoring blood has levels, etc.

“ What it boils down to is: some folks want to kill babies and don’t want to kill murderers.”

Folks that kill babies ARE murderers.

It makes sense that they don’t want murderers killed.

Gary Gilmore is still my HERO. He demanded a firing squad for his execution, because he wanted to “die like a man”.

(don’t get me wrong, he was still a murderer and I’m glad he’s dead, but I still respect him for not being a dick about his demise)

No it doesn’t :)

Well I’ve read that certain drugs used for this purpose can be addicting and the moments before you go out can feel like somewhat of a high.

I LOVE IT!

Well, he was the last SO FAR - but the list from the coup is getting longer by the day.

I think in the novel “In Cold Blood”, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith were the last people hanged in Kansas.

Actually, Gilmore opted for the firing squad in the mistaken belief that the state would not get enough people to volunteer for the squad and that the state would not be able to execute him. Thousands volunteered and nearly half stated in their application that they would be happy to bring their own rifle and ammunition. Gilmore was a dumbass but I thank him for giving me for the best laugh that month, and thank you dwarfo for reminding of that story.
