Does Roots show where the GGGGrandfather is captured by the neighboring tribe and slowly roasted to death and then eaten?

(Ain’t a race thing, pre Christian Germanic tribes were almost as bad.)

Did they show the tribes that raided the other tribes and sold the captives as slaves, who sold them to the Arabs, who sold some of them to the whites?

Did they show the 10s of thousands of white slaves in northern Africa at the time? The white female and male sex slaves?

Nah - they just ginned up the rage.

Everybody’s ancestors had issues. Let’s get over it and move on - OR - we can form tribes again and kill each other for no good reason. Won’t that be fun.

The point is that the story wasn’t real as he claimed it to be. It was so inspiring. A couple of snippets of words remembered by the oldest women in the family all they way to his going to a village in Ghana and hearing an oral history of how his gggg grandfather was taken while making a drum, matching the family’s history. Incredible, and as it turned out, all b.s.

And yet it is held up because even if the story isn’t true, it SHOULD be true. Another example of how someone’s “truth” trumps facts.

Over the course of living 65 years, I have met some disturbed people. One was a black man who made a huge sign about the black man who was killed during an arrest in New York, for selling untaxed cigarettes. He drove his truck up and down the town’s main street over and over shouting something I couldn’t understand. (Sounded really angry, though.) Another was a white guy who was walking around the parking lot at work copying down license plate numbers. I asked what he was doing after he copied mine. With a wild, incredulous look he breathlessly squeaked, “Do you have any idea how many times “j” and “a” show up in license plates!”

Fortunately, with two notable exceptions, I have been able to identify and avoid crazies like this.
