This is just a feel good approach.

You are correct. America is losing its soul as it is swinging a hammer trying to get the fly.

I went with my 86yo mother to Walmart today. She’s been suffering insomnia, worried about having enough food in the house. She cannot use the self-checkout, very technically challenged. Regular cashiers are in such short supply that she didn’t want to go there, afraid she’d end up in a line.

Anyway, we got there shortly after 7, which is when I normally shop to avoid crowds. There were a few more cars in the lot than normal, but not bad. We took our own wipes/roll of paper towels & made liberal use of them.

Quite a few of the Walmart employees seemed to be friendlier than usual. Restocking was going on in many of the aisles. No hamburger, no whole milk, eggs were in short supply. Canned tuna, sardines & salmon were in very short supply. We did get the last 4 cans of some salmon, a couple of cans of sardines & found some eggs. The paper product shelves were still empty at Walmart (we have plenty - got ours at least 2 weeks ago). Later in the day, we did find whole milk & hamburger at Aldi’s.

I felt ok there and we were more cautious than usual. We had 2 carts full of groceries & a self-check with a long conveyor was open - no one was around. We saw a couple of people wearing gloves, one guy in a mask/gloves. Most folks seemed to be fairly cheerful and polite. It was a good trip overall. I think restocking of some items will be slow, but in general, many of the shelves had more on them than the last time I was there & I think progress is being made.

Did you read the rest of my post? No stock. They don’t have enough stock to fill the orders. The shelves are empty. The idiots in California wiped out the food supply every single day. They put out what they got and by 10 or 11 everyday the shelves are totally bare.

Our Safeways were open 24 hours, but cut back to 7 am to 9 pm to get the store restocked and cleaned. It’s still empty of lots of things.

Which hour? From the excerpt...
Special Shopping Hours: 60 and older We know our older customers could be more vulnerable to the coronavirus and to better support them, Walmart is offering special shopping hours. From March 24 through April 28, Walmart stores will host an hour-long senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers aged 60 and older.

This will start one hour before the store opens.

I’m at Meijer right now. Actually about 5 am would be a better time as a lot is restocked by then.

I'd rather mix in with the general population than a group of old people who have a higher risk of already being infected.

Maybe you are wrong on that. Those over 60 are probably scared to death because of the high death rate, aren't out partying and cavorting all over town, aren't going to work, and are probably somewhat self-isolated already.

OR, they could be part of a local nursing home weekly shopping trip group and they are all 100% infected. Just look for the nursing home bus in the parking lot. That'll be your tip-off.

I was talking to a real nice guy restocking the shelves at the Target in Mountain View, California a couple days ago. He was real friendly. He said the truck rolls up every day at 6 am. They get one truck a day and it is loaded with everything from clothing to household goods to toiletries to health care items. The stuff comes off the truck in the reverse order it was loaded and that seems to be random.

He said the best bet is to get there at 7 am and wait for them to stock the hand sanitizers and paper goods. He said those are cleaned out within TEN MINUTES after hitting the shelves! What a pain in the neck.

If this crap is bad enough to wreck the economy and drive up trillions of dollars more national debt the authorities should take steps to minimize traffic by designated shopping days as in even / odd depending on your address or alphabet groups on certain days.

I mean crap, if we are going to destroy the economy and wreck the stock market might as well do this right and not pussy foot around about it. In for a penny in for a pound.

A part of me almost hopes it is really bad to make the “cure” commensurate with the disease.

Not saying, you have to guess. Make several trips down there to find out.

It is also only an hour. A lot of Seniors can’t make it half way to the back of the store in an hour and they don’t have enough scooters. Talk about Kung Flu fighting. The battle for scooters will be monumental.

I was in a WallMart in Stafford, VA, just south of MCBQ, 9 days ago, and they chased everyone out at about 22:15, including sending several employees out of the store, because they were “sanitizing” the store.

Why would anyone expect they won’t gold brick after the president declared they will be paid anyway? What a flipping mess. No honor system will work in this country because there is not enough honor. Swine.
