One of the few benefits of this will be that socialist indoctrination centers, aka NEA public schools, will begin their rapid descent into the abyss.

It can’t happen quickly enough.

Retired science teacher here. I’m supervising my grand niece home instuction. We start at 9:30 in the morning go till about 11:30,take an hour break for lunch and outdoor activity. Back to the books until 2. Her grand has been talking to other parent who say they have about 1 1/2 hour of instruction.

Having home schooled six children...

The one thing for sure will awaken parent to the fact in many cases the schools are going a terrible job...

This could well set them back a generation of youth indoctrination, perhaps more once parents realize just how useless teachers and the education establishment truly is. For the rest of us, what a great opportunity to celebrate parenthood!

Rest assured no school child will lose weight. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is handing out food so that none of the generally over-weight students will miss a meal. One would think eating is the #1 purpose of public education.

ALL homeschooling kids should learn how to put a condom on a banana, just like public schools. /s

Puts a dent in their hate-whitey curriculum.

Exactly. It’s going to be fun watching these “experts” recover when the kids learnt more than they would have in school. This will separate the motivate kids & parents from the apathetic.

Educators worry years of indoctrination will be lost by a few weeks home schooling. Teacher’s Union studies say home school isn’t as good as union teachers. Minorities hurt worst.

My next door neighbor’s kids are 9 and 13. If you can picture Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer you have an idea. They are outdoors every chance they can get. The older happily helping to skid logs on his grandparents’ farm. He begs me to let him help with yard chores—won’t accept payment.

Their mom has to stay home with them because “they don’t do well at home alone”. I asked if they were doing the “enrichment packets” sent from school and she and they just laughed. They’re loving the time off.

For the majority of American homes, homeschooling will mean forcing the kids to watch PBS all day long, starting with Sesame Street.

At least for the rest of the year they will not be getting their indoctrination into socialism in a government facility.

And the kids who suffer most from the “summer slide” are the low-income students, the ones already struggling to keep up.

Smart students will not suffer regardless of their family income. Some might actually do better since there are no progressive distractions.

This article isn’t really about homeschooling. It’s about online / remote / distance schooling. The same people (government, primarily) are still in charge of the curriculum.

I’ll have to let my doctoral student know that we did him wrong all those years. Who knew?
