U.S. Attorney General William Barr has issued a statement after Greenville police issued tickets to church members who had gathered in their cars to worship during a COVID-19 shelter-in-place order.
Religion and religious worship continue to be central to the lives of millions of Americans. This is true more so than ever during this difficult time. The pandemic has changed the ways Americans live their lives. Religious communities have rallied to the critical need to protect the community from the spread of this disease by making services available online and in ways that otherwise comply with social distancing guidelines.
The United States Department of Justice will continue to ensure that religious freedom remains protected if any state or local government, in their response to COVID-19, singles out, targets, or discriminates against any house of worship for special restrictions."

What about the nails in the driveway? Did the police do that too?
Ping
No Govf bureaucrat whines about people waiting in their cars outside the state liquor stores
No one complains about people parked in their cars waiting to buy a Lotto ticket
But parked 15 feet apart at a Drive In listening to a Christian church service is over the line?
Not sure the rumors about nails is correct. I searched several articles and this was the best one I found:
I believe the nails were at a church in Louisville KY, and the people were going inside for that one. Which was foolish. Doesnt excuse the nails, but gathering inside was not the best idea.
For Easter, a federal judge wrote a luminous decision defending religious liberty
Note to the AG: Where the heck have you been?!
And it’s not just religious liberty under threat.
The government has no business in eliminating religious liberty for one day, one month or for any period of time.
If my priest is willing to serve me communion and I am willing and able to receive via non-social distancing, so be it. It is not the government's choice. It is my choice and my priest's choice.
Given that, I have a medical condition that would make it unwise to be around a lot of people right now. (It would also be unwise for the seasonal flu if there wasn't a vaccine, but that is another discussion.) I choose not to go to mass. I also limited my activities prior to the state shutting down. It was my choice.
I sincerely believe a lot of people have made that choice on their own - to shut in and not to shut in. I heard about a lot of family and friends getting together over Easter - they chose not to. My adult daughter regularly sees her friends. I do not begrudge them. All of this despite the state sanctioned shutdown. I have no serious reason to think the shutdown has changed the outcome of the ChiCom flu. Americans have a natural inclination to free association and they are going behind government's back to do so.
All of this is a sign that government is completely wrong about this. The people know it. The people are disobeying. Deep staters don't care about freedom. They do not understand ordinary Americans, nor do they care about them. They are completely deaf to what real Americans want more of - Freedom.
I have no problem with Trump - he issued "guidelines". He shut down transportation with China - long over due, but just for the wrong reasons. Barr on the other hand, I'll wait and see if he locks up half the Department of Injustice and the FBI and then we'll talk. I'm not holding my breath.
Every night. Half mile Long Line of cars for the daiquiri drive through here.
Oh well. We get mass on line. Cant get communion anyway so what the hey.
The disparity though between this and abortion mills is outrageous and evil and points to the evil
Transportation with China isn’t shut down.
Which makes me wonder why, when people with unknown health status are allowed into the US, Americans are being locked down.
Better late than never. And Barrs jurisdiction to support additional churches is nationwide.
Im beginning to really hate cops.
Funny you should mention that...

Be sure to read the comments at that Second City link, too.
I wouldn't put it beyond them, given how they harassed the worshipers. That's the sort of thing police do in Third World banana republics.
Not to mention trust and good will...
Neither is perfect but both are clearly better than any option weve had recently. On the FBI and CIA crimes, Ive not yet given up complete hope, but ultimately the buck stops at Trumps desk. He didnt lock Hillary up as was promised, and may not lock Comey etc up,either. All we can do is stay hot on their heels, and thank them when the do make the right decisions, such as this.
I used to work a great deal in Hong Kong (which travel is shutdown too). I can't imagine my county abandoning me there and separating me from my family. I would see that as taking away my freedom and liberties. I am not binary on the travel issue. The overriding consideration is freedom.
Its really a huge NAZI driven shame that this had to be said.
