Here's every place we've [?] landed or crashed robots on Mars

Both NASA and China's space agency hope to launch new rovers for Mars in the coming weeks, and if they make it they'll become the 9th and 10th craft to successfully land on the surface of our planetary neighbor.

Hopefully, neither NASA's Perseverance rover nor China's Tianwen-1 rover become the next machine to end its mission abruptly with a crash landing on Mars. At least two craft have crashed, while four others have lost contact with Earth just before or after landing.

To mark the upcoming Martian launch season, which only occurs when the planets are best aligned for the trip every 26 months, the Planetary Society put together the below map of all 17 Mars landing attempts, past and future, up through the planned 2023 landing of a European rover and Russian lander.

How many times have they landed or crashed into Uranus.

That’s gotta hurt.

YES I am that immature at 52 that I had to post this.

Shouldn’t really be a shock to those that know me :)

I don't know but I've had several prostate biopsies and I sure wouldn't want one of those things to crash into my … body.

Didn’t you hear? Uranus was renamed because of all the jokes. It’s now known as Urectum.

Too many landers in the low lands. They need probes into the highlands. Of course, any rovers would have to be more robust than those they have sent.

Are you kidding me? After reading Mr Wells' history, that near miss with the "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator" and the 1996 Mars Attack, they should dismantle their defense weapons and surrender peaceably!

NASA & JPL need to ensure Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee is informed so she can ask which one found the flag planted by Neil Armstrong.

I would like to believe engineers studied the strengths and weaknesses, success and failures of every rover and lander and the next versions will be practically indestructible and unstoppable.

I'd like to believe that.

For example. Will the next version have a blower or sweeper to remove dust from the solar panels so over time dust build up doesn't diminish the efficiency of the solar panels after a dust storm? Two independent batteries as backup? Redundant fail safe systems? Like Arthur C. Clarke said, 'the Ramans did everything in 3'.

Engineers should consult with people from Boston Dynamics who likely have novel solutions to potential problems.
