The Woke Breaking Point

Almost everybody has a Woke Breaking Point. A point of Peak Woke. Or, at least, they should.

There should always be a line that, once crossed, signifies to someone that the ostensibly good or noble thing they currently support has soured or, as the case may be, gone completely bad. We all know the history of the twentieth century (or, so I delude myself into believing).

I realized the importance of establishing a “Woke breaking point” the other night while discussing the bizarre defenses of our current era with a brilliant friend. We were talking about the people in our lives who have hit their Woke breaking points and those who haven’t.

What I realized is how very helpful it is for people, rather than becoming confrontational, to encourage their Woke-sympathetic friends to start identifying and naming what their non-negotiable lines will be. People’s lines will—and should—vary, but as things get increasingly extreme,

The question to pose, then, is simple enough: What would it take for you to say that the Woke movement has gone too far?

Why should you ask this? Two reasons, given how out of hand the movement already is. First, people should be asked to grapple with the idea that things could possibly go too far, or even that they already have. Second, in circumstances like these threaten to be, everyone should stake out at least some tentative line that their current principles won’t let them cross, and they need to do this before they’ve already crossed it and been forced to defend that which they currently find indefensible.

This simple act of getting people to commit to their principles before they let them slip is of tremendous importance and use because of how we process our moral reasoning.

A specific conversation I remember was discussing fascism with a coworker writing a report. He pointed out the bullying nature and dominance of the ideology of the masses and how “against freedom and equality” this was. I brought up the point that if there a conservative/Trump Voter working at this store, they would have a similar experience. They retorted that “yeah, but those people are stupid and they deserve to have the f--- beat out of them.” There was no ability to reflect on how easy it was for a population to develop hate of another class/label/designation and utterly dismiss them.

For this lot, Wokeyness currently demands that Trump Voters be eliminated. Well...ok...so, prescinding from the Deplorables' holdings of 300MM firearms and 7 trillions rounds, what happens when they're turned into Solyent Green?

My guess is...Wokeys will start eradicating the centrists who didn't vote for Trump but, ya know they keep saying, "is defunding the police really a great idea?" Off with their heads!!

Next up after the centrists are eliminated, are the center-left crowd....now, they are largely minorities but they are religious people who believe in the 10 Commandments and God or Islam. Well...that patriarchy silliness has stifled science and the arts and social liberalism...so the Wokey crowed will put their sheets and hoods back on and lynch them.

WELL...now they're getting somewhere...the Wokeys have wiped out Trumpsters, centrists, religious blacks, hispanics, and Middle East folks...that leaves liberal whites and people of Asian descent and atheists of all colors. But, wait, the Wokeys say.....wtf...nobody is taking away my garbage, there is no electricity to power my wifi, and why isn't anyone stocking the shelves at Whole Foods? Well, maybe FDR had a point or two about internment camps - they'll force people of Asian descent into slave labor.

By about 2112 they'll resort to cannibalism.

After Obama was elected I attended a huge party with a mixed crowd of University people and industry. It was early but a few FSU professors had gotten started early. They were jubilant about Obama’s victory.

P1 “We ought to send the Republicans all out to reeducation camps.”
(General laughter.)
P2 “Reeducation Hell! We need to send them all to death camps!”
(Hilarious laughter from the crowd listening.)

The first guy said what he thought was reasonable and acceptable. The second guy must have thought that if that was acceptable then his solution was better. The crowd agreed with him.

(I was just entering. I spun on my heel and never went to another large party in Tallahassee.)

This is what we are dealing with. SJW types are full on communists. Isn’t it odd that they are among the people who have benefited most from our capitalist society?

The odd thing in all of this, is that 20-40 years ago it was liberals who basically said they wanted to be left alone...let us think what we want to think. Now, the script is flipped..it is THEY who are pushing thoughtcrime, and my experience is Deplorables will happily debate and leave alone those with whom they disagree without torching their stuff.

The key, is that a LOT of center left people aren't totally nutty and are probably kinda scared by the monster to their left. It's like a parent who indulges their child but then their first semester kid wires the family savings to Antifa. Hopefully, they vote against this monster.
