D. L. Hughley: 'Everybody Knows' Independence Day Didn't Free Us All
NPR ^ | July 4, 2020 | Scott Simon

Posted on 07/04/2020 7:18:15 AM PDT by Stravinsky

July 4th is U.S. Independence Day. But D.L. Hughley, the comedian and author, suggests in his new book that all U.S. holidays "be put on a probationary period to ascertain their relevance and value to All Americans, acknowledging that days off are nice and that mattress sales must occur ..."

His book, co-written with Doug Moe of the Upright Citizens Brigade, is Surrender, White People! Our Unconditional Terms for Peace.

"I used to always tell this joke about, well, today, as we celebrate our Independence Day, well, not all of us," Hughley says. "Some of us weren't free for a little while after that. But you know, anything for time-and-a-half and a slab of baby backs. But it's just one of those inconveniences that we tolerate because ... people don't want to upset a story. And it's one of those things ... everybody knows it's not true. Everybody knows Christopher Columbus didn't discover America. Everybody knows Thanksgiving is a little bit more sinister than we celebrate it as. But it's kind of our story in America. When you're Black in America, the best thing you can develop is a sense of amnesia ... we shouldn't have Google and we shouldn't be able to access the truth, because that's the only way that you can kind of make sense out of all these things."

Ah, very good. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

As long as people see themselves as downtrodden, they will live downtrodden lives. Regardless of how much wealth or fame they might have.

What is sad is when people like D.L. Hughley rise above the oppression but instead of encouraging and exhorting others to do the same, they feed thoughts of bitterness, anger and resentment into those minds.

There are no slaves still alive.

Not in the US, but there are plenty of slaves being held around the world today. They're still bought and sold in markets in the Middle East. This is of zero interest to Antifa and BLM.

Sorry wokies, you’ve erased history. There was no slavery. There is no “white guilt”. There are a great many more of us than there are of you, and most of us are still armed. Some would do well to remember that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the slave trade is still active all over the world. We changed the name to "human trafficking" and it is illegal now, but still seems to be a problem.

As for D.L. Hughley, I would say that unless he is a current victim of human trafficking, any non-freedom that he feels is self-imposed.

Hughley is the same kind of black radical that consistently supports Cuba and communist revolutionaries. But, by definition, those in communist nations are property of the state.

Very few people do. Also, very few people have ever heard of white slaves or that Indians had black slaves.

The reason people are angry isn’t slavery. It’s what they don’t know about slavery and how history has been warped to take advantage of uneducated people.

Of course slavery still exists. I was talking about U. S. slavery that ended in the 1800s.

Freedom is a work in progress.

The abiding theme of freedom is lex Rex not Rex lex. It takes time. That last thing needed is to abandon the quest by adopting Marxist tyranny.

Mr. Hughley, does a video of your very first performance exist?
I'd like to know, so I can compare it with the stuff you're doing now. I know you must have had all the right instincts, told all the right jokes, entertaining and educating your audience so they were better people for seeing your performance. I'm sure your timing was perfect, your vocabulary impeccable.

Maybe you're thinking that's not true? Well, since I'm judging you by YOUR STANDARDS, which is anything you've done or said since the beginning of your career, YOU SUCK

Freedom to some people mean freedom to do anything they want instead of freedom to choose which good you will pursue.

Every right has concomitant duties.
