Allow me to indulge the irresistible and put two publications side by side: Gary Vikans new book about a religious hoax from the 14th Century and the Senate Intelligence Committees report about the so-called Russian hoax of 2016.
Both the book and the report are quests for truth. Both provide extensive facts about their respective subjects. But while Vikan is clear in his conclusion that the famous Shroud of Turin was not, as long purported, the burial cloth used on the body of the crucified Christ the Senates report reflects disagreement on how to characterize, once and for all, what happened in the last presidential election.
President Donald Trump denies that Russian agents worked with his campaign to help him defeat Hillary Clinton; he repeatedly refers to that suggestion as the Russian hoax. In Trump World, facts do not matter.
But Russian interference was no hoax. The Kremlin, in fact, wanted Trump to be elected. The major U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Russian spies interfered in our election... We have known this since at least January 2017 when the director of national intelligence released a declassified version of a report on Russian meddling.
Now the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee has released its report on the matter, finding that representatives of the Trump campaign had communicated numerous times with Russian agents and had welcomed their help...
Fortunately, The Holy Shroud: A Brilliant Hoax in the Time of the Black Death was not written by a committee,
Vikan was director of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore for nearly 20 years and its curator of medieval art for a decade before that. By the time he took his first job at the Walters in 1985, Vikan had developed a fascination with the Shroud of Turin...

The author of this book has not kept up with the research.
To make an image the shroud would have to be suspended above the statue or corpse ( or Jesus if it is real ). The cloth needs to be photo sensitive. I just don't see how it was done.
correct. The shroud has supernatutal properties.
Amen!!!
there is a tv documentary which purports to show that leonardo da vinci could have created the shroud...
Now all these idiots have to do is create it......still waiting.
“The shroud is [impressed] with the image of the body of a gaunt, bearded man with long hair.”
I knew it was over right there since if the writer can’t get that part right, there’s not much hope for him anyway.
The Shroud is not “impressed”, nor has it been “wrapped” around a model. The method described as a way to fake the Shroud won’t work because the Shroud has nothing soaked into the fabric.
The image sits only on the surface of the fabric, set there by a very short burst of extremely bright light.
I’ve often wondered if comparisons have been run between the Shroud image and the image on Juan Diego’s cloak left by Our Lady of Guadalupe.
But I can't image why this cloth would have been saved through the centuries if people didn't see it as something special.
And I certainly can't understand how it could have been created, except supernaturally.
And I only know of one crucified man that I consider supernatural.
Take a small statue, dip it in paint then try to make a photo graphic 2-d image of it. Go ahead, try. If you roll the statue or just simply let the cloth lay on the wet statue you get a distorted image. A wide body image.
If the shroud is a Medieval hoax how was it done? Lots of theories but none have reproduced the same results. The main question is why would a medieval forger have bothered with such an elaborate method, defying even 21st century analysis, when the crudest forged holy relics were readily accepted in those times.
Think of the outlines of humans left on walls in Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Except in this case the light came from the body and set the image on the surface of the cloth.
“There’s lots more including the fact that the dating source was taken from a repair made in the 14th. century and not the actual Shroud itself.”
Documentation states samples were taken from repair-free areas.
A few years ago I watched a bunch of videos on Youtube that were very interesting about the people that did the big study which occurred very shortly after I got saved.
I was always open minded about it’s authenticity, but after watching those videos, I became as convinced as the surviving scientists that the Shroud was authentic. Like another wrote up there, “no proof that it’s Jesus”, but it’s a first century cloth that cannot be duplicated.
I took a bunch of HD copies of the man’s face and body on the cloth and it moves me spiritually as it depicts the serious suffering He went through for us all.
Whether real or fake I think the shroud could be divinely inspired. Nobody is ever going to recreate another one.
The latest was from a repair. There are too many other things about it that shows it’s not a fake.
If you want on or off the Shroud of Turin Ping List, Freepmail me.
Yes to Human hemoglobin and pollens from the Jerusalem area, not to mention anatomical accuracy of the nails through the wrists/palms. However it is not a a photographic 3D image. Its a 3D terrain map which is not photographic, having nothing to do with photography, but rather to do with the an analog inverse representation of the distance of the body to the skin represented by the darkness of the image which dissipates at about 10cm from the cloth visually, and at about 20cm even under computer enhancement. This computer enhancement allows us to know that the Man on the Shroud was circumcised (per Barry Schwortz, principal Light Photographer STURP).
For those that make it this far, I posted this not to promote a nutcase theory about the Shroud of Turin, but to show this nutcase and his TDS in full view.
These people really do exist, and get paid to publish this drivel.
Both the commentator and Vikan, IMO, are in rebellion against the Creator of the universe.
And exhibit classic TDS.
