New York's Times Square will bid farewell to 2020 without the usual huddled masses jamming the streets on New Year's Eve officials have announced, amid fears that crowds could spread coronavirus.
The New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square is among the biggest in the world, typically drawing about a million people to the streets of midtown Manhattan, with more than a billion more tuning in on television.

Democrats to Islamists: Hold my beer.
# 31 beat me to it (regarding money); the authoritarians can do it in NYC because they are dealing with a population (the natives, not the commuters from surrounding areas) who moved there specifically to have big gubmint run their lives/make their decisions for them (while also fixing the sink, shoveling the snow, providing “free” meals for the students, etc.).
There are more people in gubmint housing in NYC alone than in some STATES.
An NYPD-related group was going to do the lights after the Dems tried to put the kibosh on the annual memorial.
Cuomo and de Blasio realized they couldn’t allow the public to figure out that they don’t need government to do everything for them, and then went ahead with the lighting.
I didn’t realize the city did it; I just knew it was done because I could see them from my house in NJ.
Thanks for clarifying!
You’re welcome, but you can really thank these folks...
If it hadn’t been for them, the ‘Rats wouldn’t have blinked.
True!
And God bless NYC’s bravest and finest!
Yes; I believe downplaying the commemoration is something the libs want because 9/11 exposed a lot of lies about Islam, multiculturalism, etc. - and the heroes weren’t “diverse enough” (though they were diverse).
And this has got me thinking...
NYC has cancelled the T-Day parade. Now the ball drop....
Come on, Gothamites, are you men or mice?!
Who in Hades needs government?!
Hold your own damn parade.
Do your own damn ball drop.
Wear masks if you want. Watch out the windows if you feel the need. But if you’re hale and hearty, have a self-organized frickin’ great time!
What the heck is the Kaiser gonna do? Arrest thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of you?
Snort.
Pull up your big boy and girl pants, get to work, plan your own celebrations...
AND TAKE BACK YOUR CITY.
Honestly, are there enough Americans left to miss those things? Even many of the firemen on 9/11 lived outside of the city already.
I live a dozen miles west of lower Manhattan, and Americans are truly getting more scarce with each passing year. It isn’t devolving into a welfare dump, but it is increasingly foreign (my town has a Hindu temple, and most of the European ethnic clubs shuttered years ago). We still have our Columbus statues, but the people protecting them are increasingly older.
Here are some refugees I’d love to see Trump open the doors for: law-abiding, tax-paying, hard-working, God-fearing people fleeing the UK and EU who want to become Americans.
First of all there are very few God fearing folk in the EU west of Berlin so no thanks. They will just end up voting for Democrats. No more immigration PERIOD.
Yes, but I don’t see them stopping in NY or NJ (there would be no benefit for them; they’d still face high costs of living, high taxes, intrusive gubmint, and predatory Welfarians).
In the 90s Spaniards described how for the first time the immigration was going the opposite way; more retiring Spaniards were leaving the US for Spain than people moving from Spain to the US. I suspect Portugal is looking at something similar; those who fled here during the Overseas War are retiring now and moving back, while we offer little to their younger population.
Been there lately, have you...?
If naturalized immigrants voted for Republicans by 9:1 margins then immigration would not be allowed.
Did it once, we both got robbed, didn’t see the ball....no interest since.
Fuck you, de Blasio.
Oh, he’s a total loser; the people he represents care nothing about 9/11, this country, their city, jobs, taxes, etc. - they are the lowest of the low.
