@ChadPergram

McConnell: I am encouraged that the President has committed to refilling Israel's Iron Dome stockpiles. I hope his budget proposal, coming Friday, will make room for increased military assistance to Israel

This is what I hate... it's NOT constitutional and none of McConnell's business.

I would argue it's not "conservative" either (where is the money coming from?) despite the fact many conservatives may well be generally sympathetic.

What do we think, Freepers? :/

I think you're anti-Israel.

None of McConnell's business??? Of course it is. He's part of the system.

And what's not Constitutional. I believe the bill is/has been in the works.

At this stage, ‘conservative’ is no longer in the dictionary.

Commenting using my emotions, I say it is kind of like buying .22 ammo with my credit card. It’s here now and so am I.

Meanwhile, I’ll watch for the reactions to McConnell.

Agree. End foreign aid, but if were doing it, Israel should get a lot.

Where is foreign aid in the constitution?

It’s not permissible as far as I know.

Not 99. I think the other antisemites in the senate will vote against it.

OK a handful but generally it’s going to be a big vote to spend more taxpayers money and picking a side in a conflict.

Not good in my opinion but there you go.

“I am anti-foreign aid or military assistance or whatever its called... to ALL countries.

Surely it’s unconstitutional,.”

I spent 33 years in the military industrial complex, building weapons. Many of those weapons, though “sold” to the US, were actually designated for foreign militaries. I have pretty good insight into FMS (Foreign Military Sales) and they are not what they seem.

At the end of WWII the US bribed up an alliance to fight a cold war against the Soviets. This was hugely successful, in that all of the conflicts resulting in shooting were amongst relatively weak proxies and caused no damage to overall humanity. As a result of this policy the last seventy years have seen the greatest flowering of civilization in terms of population and industry than in all previous history. Part of this alliance was that the US would patrol the global oceans so that everyone could use them for profit. To demonstrate US conviction to this policy, not once in the Viet Nam war did the US interdict Vietnamese commerce to other nations. Yes, it sounds silly, I know, but it also means the US never intended to threaten the Soviets of the Chinese by actually winning the war. The objective was to fight, but by Marquis of Queensbury rules.

In order to fight on a global scale at any moment, we must have an arms industry that runs 24/7. Since the US could not absorb that amount of arms, we give/sell them to our allies. The arms industry runs separate from the rest of the economy. It’s not like phones, were millions of users keep the production lines running. If the US stops buying, for us or others, then the lines producing them go down and starting them up again can take years. Also, even with everything running and working, it still takes ten years from concept to fielding any new weapon. Imagine what it would take if you had to start up an entire industry from scratch.

This is just a quick blush at why FMS is here and why it’s a necessary evil. Believe me, there’s enough in the FMS story to fill a set of encyclopedias. But, in short, it’s here because we need it. If it wasn’t here, then the US would have a limited lifespan as a nation.
