Looks like a bad 60s LSD trip.
We didn’t PLAN for the withdrawal. SecDef is so busy looking for white supremacists under his bed that no one PLANNED for this!
I knew when I left Afghanistan that the Taliban would take over extremely fast when we left - UNLESS we took measures to slow them. That was 15 years ago. Things like having supply and evacuation routes in place, forces to hold evacuation points, air support for the Afghan Army AFTER we left (we screwed Vietnam the same way).
It takes planning and pre-positioning troops and supplies to allow an orderly retreat under fire - which is what this was always going to turn into. But Gen Milley (sp?) is too busy chasing conservatives out of the military. The bastards would rather fight REPUBLICANS than the TALIBAN!
If it were me my family would of left Afcrapistan the day Xiden announced the departure of Us troops; if not sooner.
It is now difficult to think of the title journalist as something other than an enemy.
And these are the Assistant Democrats making it possible:
Dan Sullivan (R-AK) Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) Mike Crapo (R-ID) Roy Blunt (R-MO) Richard Burr (R-NC) Deb Fischer (R-NE) Lindsey Graham (R-SC) Rob Portman (R-OH) Thom Tillis (R-NC) Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) Jim Risch (R-ID) Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Bill Cassidy (R-LA) Kevin Cramer (R-ND) Roger Wicker (R-MS) Mitch McConnell (R-KY) John Hoeven (R-ND) Susan Collins (R-ME) Mitt Romney (R-UT)
Saw this morning that the Taliban have freed over 5K people ie terrorist from prison. Wow almost sounds like NY and CA.
Yup—sometimes you survive being stupid, and sometimes you don’t...
I’m not lacking empathy when I ask....Why in the hell would anyone have an 11 month old child there?
But, I might be able to give you some insight on the mentality of some of these folks like this journalist. And one thing that folks need to keep in mind, that no matter how many boogers the Taliban eats, or how much dirt they eat, their leadership is savvy in more ways than one. They know how to use the media and manipulate the message. They’ve had decades to perfect their craft and only got better in the last 20.
Now the Taliban is on Twitter. A former American President isn’t allowed on there, but the Taliban is.
Anywho.....
the journalist have lived in Kabul for years, right? And up until very recently, who was protecting Kabul? The US military. When rockets or mortars were launched it was the US military sending counter battery to the launch sites.
And when they weren’t out and about, with their blue helmets and plate carriers trying to get a story, they were in Kabul, nice and cozy, going to restaurants, going to parties at the various embassies and consulates, getting drunk, having a grand ol’ time.
How’d they do that? How did they live in fantasy land? Because the 82nd Airborne, 10th Mountain Div, 1st Marine Division, or any other element of Infantryman and all their support units were there to keep the peace.
None of them gave a thought to the 19yr old kid from Kansas, that was in an Infantry squad walking patrols outside the city.
I saw them all day, every day at the embassy in Baghdad. Liquor stores abound. Parties every night at this embassy or that embassy. Lying by the many pools and having a grand ol’ time.
Meanwhile, kids from the US were running missions in the middle of the night trying to find the bad guys.
No sympathy for anyone dumb enough to stay there. But I do have some sympathy for the 11 month old that was born to two idiot parents.
The Taliban has been taking that country for weeks, if you didn’t have the smarts to say, at least, let me get my wife and child out of here. Oh well.
Hmm, Pedro 47 = Mustafa 47?
I can’t tell if this guy is American, but he uses the phrase “sine pari” in his bio, which is an Army Special Ops motto.
My friend didn’t live to see his 19th birthday.
OK, I can understand the mentality of combat jouralists. But who would keep their wife and infant daughter in a war zone with them? I don’t remember the jouralists having dependents in Saigon in the last few weeks.
Why is this guy worried? US Military leadership said the only real threats were white supremacists and they are thousands of miles away in Red states.
Everyone should be in a free country.
Exactly my point. And I’m sorry for you and your buddy.
I was in Afghanistan in ‘02. Winter time and the bad guys had just endured months of laser guided bombs being dropped on their buddies, so they learned to lay low.
Ended up in Baghdad years later as a contractor working at the embassy.
The embassy folks, the media, USAID, etc live in liberal fantasy land. They hate the military, hated the contractors, hated the guns but sure as hell loved that security blanket.
For them it’s rainbows and lollipops. Pool parties. Happy Hour. Gay Pride. All their fun stuff.
They completely ignore and then forget about what’s on the other side of those walls.
It may sound corny as hell to some, but the part in A Few Good Men, where Nicholson says his thing, is so effin’ true it’s scary.
I hope the kid gets out, but the parents are not smart enough to live.
Hoping the biden administration moves mountains to get Americans out. Something tells me biden isn’t moving any mountains for any Americans. Not when it involves the administration’s new love, which must never be dissed in any way.
