Agreed. Pre-scamdemic lockdowns, I hadn’t been to a movie theatre more than a handful of times since 2013. Very rarely did any of the crap coming out Hollywood instill any enthusiasm or motivation in me to pay $20 for a ticket and another $15 for a soda and popcorn.

The original was woke and preachy for its day. The new version may actually be behind the curve so far as woke PC is concerned. But the discussion is academic. If we haven’t seen the movie, we really don’t know what it is. I may see it eventually and probably won’t love it or hate it.

Simple answer, mandate the people watch it. For their health. I’m sure our government kneepaders on FR can justify a mental health mandate full of wokeism.
LOL The most recent film I watched in a movie theatre was "The Patriot." I just looked and found that was over twenty years ago.

reminds me of Ross Hunter’s disaster the musical LOST HORIZON. Bombed at the box office.
A couple of years later it was on commercial TV and the blurb said “ROSS HUNTER’S GREAT FILM HIT, LOST HORIZON!”
Which is the problem with most movies anymore.
Once you strip away the light show where is the core story?
There is nothing there to care about.
Sure, songs and dancing and flashy CGI are fun. So are witty one liners and even visual jokes. But you have to have a story underneath it all.
And that is where they fail.
Normal to have a drop of up to 50% the second weekend (for non-blockbuster movies). A 68% drop is going off a cliff. Spielberg touched all the ‘progressive’ bases with white racists, transexuals, etc. Who could have possibly guessed it would bomb at the box office?
