Without setting foot inside an office building, Chaylene Martinez unwittingly put her foot in her mouth by criticizing her would-be employer during a one-take, pre-recorded video interview.
“The question is … the stupidest, cheesiest question I’ve ever read in my life,” Martinez says in now-viral footage of her disastrous digital application to SkyWest Airlines. In the clip, which has amassed over 6.9 million views, the troubled TikToker is seen complaining about SkyWest’s interview questions to an unnamed male friend on the phone. However, she accidentally begins recording herself on the company’s video application platform while she’s bad-mouthing the brand.
“’What is your impression of SkyWest’s company culture, and how does that resonate with you?’” she mockingly reads aloud in part of the minute-and-seven-second “answer” she gives. “You have to record yourself [answering] it, and it’s so awkward.”

Yeah. I forget the actual things they said people tried to solve it with, but every one of them was inordinately complex.
Mine was simple and super elegant.
Hell, I didn’t even remember what an O(n) solution was, from my Comp Sci days.
I just went to the simplest solution my gut told me would work. :^)
HA! And I think I called you an hour after it happened!
Yeah, that’s about right. Aligns with what I remember.
Those are the cliche answers and most HR people roll their eyes at that humblebrag. Seriously, that answer is a punchline now. The current thinking is to actually answer the question honestly, BUT...what you want to give them is something that's easily fixable by their training. "While I have deep experience with systems X, Y, and Z, I haven't spent as much time as I'd like learning the newest version of Z that I understand you're using now. I'm very excited to learn that, though."
You’re right. that was funny.
OK, Yes.

Millennial Job Interview

Many years ago I was in an interview years ago and was on the 2nd round. That was with a VP, who’d happened to have flown in that day for other stuff, and decided to interview me. I can’t remember exactly what the question was, but it was most likely really general, like “why should we hire you?”. My answer was “Well, I’m one of the laziest people you’ll probably ever meet.”
Dead silence followed, and I continued, “You see, I want computers to work for me, not the other way around, so I’m willing to invest time, thought and energy in any automation I can so that everything runs as smoothly as possible with as little additional babysitting from me as I can manage.”
It was a systems manager position, and I ended up working there for more than a decade. It was a fun gig because I really enjoyed the folks I worked with.
Best answer ever. I’d have hired you on the spot and started you that day.
Robert A. Heinlein wrote an entire story about someone with that attitude.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
# Best answer ever. I’d have hired you on the spot and started you that day.
They pretty much did. It was a great job, and I did manage to eventually almost automate myself right out of a job. lol.
