one of the most interesting things, to me, about cats is they all move alike - whether a fluffy house cat, bobcat, leopard or what ever. It’s just that some have bigger bites and claws than others ;-)

“Caressing the tiger” sometimes said of living with house cats. Oddly, Cheetahs are the only big cat that purrs like a house kitty.

We have a part time house in Oro valley, yet to see a bobcat.

Maybe if I went out back and popped a can of Fancy Feast?

We have a similar backyard minus the cacti. That is what my tabby cat Eustace pictures himself as.

Great video - got to see my first bobcat in the wild this past deer season as it walked through the deer trail I was watching. It finally sensed me watching it and spooked out of the area very quickly.

I didn’t know that.
But I can assure you that bobcat can hiss just like a house cat.
Only louder.

Cougars purr too.
Worked with more than a few of them during my zookeeping years.

Have had a few cats that were awesome when they were not pleased with being restrained. They quickly remind you of how strong animals are compared to humans.

Then add in the claws..........

Snagging a quail, one of nature’s popcorn.

They make up for it by having a hella high reproduction rate. Their ideal breeding area is a small barren circle with dense bushes in a ring. Once quail move in, in short order you are up to your hips in quail.

There’s a homeowner in North Scottsdale with a concrete block fenced desert backyard that is just perfect for bobcats. A female cat, when pregnant, has moved in a few times to have and raise her litter. The homeowner went so far as to talk to their veterinarian, and just once a litter to put out some cat chow with extra nutrients, to give them an advantage in the wild.

But it made me wonder. Such backyard designs are common. So why this one in particular?

The prey is a Gambel’s Quail. Quite common in Arizona.
They are pretty aware of environs.
The bobcat had be really quiet.

Your bird feeder is probably located too far from “cover”.

Exactly. The skeleton of a 7 lb. house cat and the skeleton of a 800 lb. Siberian Tiger are so similar that if you shrunk one down or enlarged the other, they would be nearly indistinguishable.

Or so I am told...:)

And they have a lot of similar behaviors. When you see a housecat catch an animal and, turning to look at you with the still twitching prey its jaws, you see in its eyes the wild, unhuman, pitiless, predator.

It is the same animal you may have stroked the chin of as you saw it walking down the street, but it is clearly tapping into a more primitive part of its brain.

I find cats fascinating.

We lived in the woods. My cat was outside and I heard fighting cat growls. I walked out on my deck, looked out back and saw my cat in the shadows of the trees. “Here kitty kitty”.

Meow..... I heard from behind me. I looked back and saw my cat. I looked at the tree and noticed that cat was quite a bit larger than mine.... as he slinked off in the shadows.

As I often say to Mrs llevrok, were our ginger boy 30 pounds bigger, we’d his lunch.

Oh yeah. I can attest to that. My late “Scooter’’ was a strong, muscular cat, took him in as a stray.

Had him at the vet. Always had to have him sedated because he could be vicious.

One particular visit I was helping the vet hold him down so the vet could administer an injection.

Scooter came out of the sedative and whipped his head around so fast and clamped down on my hand with his two upper fangs. I still have the scar.

To this day the power and speed of a housecat amazes me.

The cat is the perfect hunting machine.

In particular is it’s triangle shaped head.

It focus’s the cats bite to a particular point, like a bolt cutter.
