"Planet Killer" Asteroid Spotted That Poses Distant Risk to Earth
The New York Times (via MSN.com) ^ | 31 October 2022 | Robin George Andrews

Some asteroids occupy corners of the sky in which the sun's glare smothers them...Last year, in the hope of finding asteroids cloaked by excessive sunlight, an international team of astronomers co-opted a camera primarily designed to investigate the universe's notoriously elusive dark matter.

Asteroid Apophis is coming in the year 2029. It will pass between the Earth and Moon. It will not hit Earth according to scientists, but no one mentions the Moon.

And according to Obama, if an asteroid was heading to Earth, the Republicans would say the solution is tax cuts.

But we all know that if an asteroid were actually headed towards earth, the solution for it by the democrats would be to tax us to death before the asteroid killed us.

“My plan will ensure the asteroid does not hit the earth. The republicans want to destroy the earth to take away women’s healthcare and make sure corporations can continue their record profits. This isn’t hyperbole.”

Just like global warming.

Do you suppose global warming, or a killer asteroid, will require more taxes?

From the article:

One of them, 2022 AP7, is roughly a mile long, and its orbit crosses Earth’s path around the sun, getting as near as 4.4 million miles to Earth itself — uncomfortably close by cosmic standards (although far more distant than Earth’s moon). That makes 2022 AP7 “the largest potentially hazardous asteroid found in the last eight years or so,” said Scott Sheppard, an astronomer at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C., and an author of the study.

It will pass by the Earth 18 times further than the moon so no doom... this time.

But they claim it will be effected by the Earth’s gravity and will have a different path the next time around. Something for the grand kids to worry about.

Wonder what the effect will be if it's affected by E's gravity

LOL. Guilty.
I have been speaking English as a third language since I was about 10, and I will always be confused between ‘affect’ and ‘effect’. I am a very old man now and I am just never going to remember the difference. Oh well. And I am not going to learn the slang words that the kids use.

Usually “affect” is used as a verb.
“Effect” is usually used as a noun.

But, I do believe they are interchangeable, according to your preference. I use the above as a guideline.

Sorry to interfere.

Regards

Good guideline, I use affect if it has an emotional attachment... personal affects... the eyeliner on the young lady affected the young men which was her desired effect.

You did exactly what I said:

Used affect as the verb
Used effect as the noun.

That seems to be so reasonable to me.

Good job.
