Henry V was no English hero but a ‘power-hungry imperialist’: Globe's latest production of the Shakespeare play is set to show audiences the ‘devastating cost’ of the king’s ‘bombastic pursuit of power’

Henry V was a power-hungry imperialist rather than an English hero, the Globe’s latest production of the William Shakespeare play will suggest.

Rather than lauding a “band of brothers” defeating the French against the odds at Agincourt, the new staging will show audiences the “devastating cost” of Henry’s “bombastic pursuit of power”.

A theater that suppose to conserve Shakespeare is now actively destroying the Bard's works. First turning the Joan of Arc, the Maiden of France, into an Alphabet person. Now condemning Henry V as a some sort of Medieval Vlad Putin. Whatever king of a major European state did not engage in "bombastic pursuit of power". The Capetians were very good at expanding their small power base around Paris to gain control over all of France

At least they aren’t portraying Henry VIII as a trans or gay fop.

And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

There is a quote from the director claiming to have discovered the seedy underbelly of English nationalism. These people are so full of themselves.

I’d rather hear about how Arthur “Two Sheds” Jackson got his nickname.

Do you get it now? They have been actively destroying and mocking our heritage and our values. All in the name of ‘diversity’. Our ancestors would be completely ashamed of how we have let them do it with no pushback.

There was nearly no time in the history of that continent that the Angevin dynasty was not at war with the French and vice versa.

Henry the 5th was the son of the illegitimate Henry the 4th..who was a “son” and the illegitimate child of Edward the 3rd. The best Plantagenet King of England and maybe the best king England ever had.

The story goes that Edwards wife had a child in Ghent, and that child was a girl. The girl child died as a result of an accident so they went out and took a boy child from a porter for a replacement. That child they took became John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster.

As so started the wars of the Roses which started after Henry the 5th dies and his insane son, Henry the 6th took the crown.

C.S. Lewis thought Henry V was a sociopath. There are a lot of ways to view him, of which Shakespeare’s presentation (whether he believed it or not) is one.

Here's an idea: present the play as it was written, not how you wish it were written.

And there was never any such thing as White Supremacy. It is just a fact of history that in Shakespeare's time in Europe, there were only White People.

Shakespeare didn’t exactly do historical justice to any of the Plantagenets, but he doesn’t deserve this crap.

Overall, the Hundred Years War was quite profitable for England.
