I think you have hit on a good reason not to tell kids Santa isn’t real. The word “anonymous.”

The kids don’t have to feel grateful to their parents for all the gifts. That would kind of spoil things a little.

But I can see doing it the other way too.

Nothing wrong in kids in believing in the Santa magic, or the Easter bunny. Besides our lord and savior was in born in December anyway.

During my childhood in Bavaria, we knew him as Der Weihnachtsmann who brought me a pair of snow skis my grandfather had made and hidden in his carpentry workshop, we knew the Weihnachstmann had been because of the footprints we found in the sawdust. Der Weihnachtsmann was just an old man who gave toys to children. The rest of the Santa Claus story belongs to Disney.

They can cut Santa Claus out of their picture, but the Weinachtsmann continues to live forever, he's the essence of generosity to little children, and if you were naughty, you got a smack on the bottom.

Saint Nicholas is a real saint, if you’re Catholic.

Santa Claus is a Protestant derivative, IIRC

I remember being a child,, nearly seven decades ago, and the wonder that is Christmas morning, a celebration of Jesus birth. If you don’t care to include St Nicholas, or St Nick, or Santa Claus, I’m good with that. I’m still going to wish a truly good spirited Merry Christmas to all. Even if someone responds, Bah humbug. And i am a sinner, asking forgiveness daily, but God made me the person i am, so i must be perfect until i sin.

And yes, Jesus is the reason for the season.

And I’m going to guess that you’re not going to be much fun at Easter.
BTW, He is Risen.

I know that God has a sense of humor, and has a sense of all things. When angels of the Lord aren’t protecting me, they make sure I can’t find my keys. No point in cursing, at all.

“Now i lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
And if i die before i wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Amen”

And Good night.

The first time I heard it, I wasn’t real sure what it meant, and it wasn’t all that long ago.

My goodness! You can tell all the “news writers” are below the age of 30. This is not something new. Every generation deals with the question of when and how to tell their children about “Santa”.

Some parents let their children know from the beginning that it’s just a story. My children knew at an early age that WE were Santa, but they just loved the family, fun, and gifts of the holidays. My grandchildren all know it’s family members, and not Santa, giving them gifts. However, with my children and my grand-children, they are all aware, that we are in fact, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord. (They just get new socks as a celebration).

Since Jesus mentions that “only the sign of Jonah, who was in the belly of the fish for 3 days and three nights, would be given this generation”, perhaps this Jesus that taught” kindness, generosity, and all sorts of values”...believed also that the Jonah’s fish tale was real.

Do you think Jesus was a liar?

“Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here” (Matthew 12:38–41).

The context won’t allow anyone to suggest that Jesus as depicted here was using myth to foretell his own death and resurrection. He was using what he thought was stone cold history.

Now you might be a Jeffersonian type that relegates Jesus to that of a great teacher who had mythical stories of power and miracles built around his ethos....that is a different argument. The account we have from Matthew however shows us that this man, Mythical or not to you, believed the Jonah accounts as being historically accurate.

I agree; the Scriptures are not fables.

Now there is the errant theology of Job’s friends, but that’s another matter.

There is ONE Santa story I believe - and that’s only because it has Lee Majors in it. :)

These parents should relax. Sadly, it appears that Santa was shot down earlier today. Though reports vary, we have actual in-flight proof.

I don't know if they used an AMRAAM or used an old supercooled-tracking-head-expanding-rod Sidewinder from Vietnam. Mark17 may know the answer.

Chode has the picture.
