It’s a good example of why.
3100 North Broad has been a war zone for 50 years. My wife graduated from LaSalle in 1982. It’s four blocks from Temple. Temple is sprawling and walking in the neighborhood is a reality. LaSalle is cloistered and self contained. Nobody has any reason to walk the surrounding area and nobody is on campus that doesn’t belong there as a student.
In this case you wouldn’t need a large cap. Knock off the first two or three and the rest of them will scatter like the hyenas they are.
Why anybody would attend a university right in the middle of one of the biggest open air drug markets in the world is beyond me.

I just took a look at the video. You weren’t exaggerating there.
It’s also interesting to note that one bystander (white shirt guy) made them all scatter. And wonder what his secret superpower is.
The sad part is that these areas of Philadelphia really were getting better for a while - from about 2005 through about 2017. There was a conscious effort to develop underdeveloped areas of the city - bring stores in like Walmart and Home Depot. Bring in more restaurants. It actually got nice in certain formerly-bad areas like Aramingo Avenue. Then everything went to Hell as Defund the Police took hold. Now urban professionals are leaving formerly good areas and moving to the suburbs or other cities. Businesses are moving to the suburbs too. Most big business development projects in the Philly area are outside of the city in Conshohocken, King of Prussia or north of the city. This is happening in a lot of citys so Philadelphia is not unique. But its a shame to see the progress that was being made stop and reverse.
I was getting ready to say 50 years no way. Then realized that was about the mid-70s. Well after the evil traditional American society of the 50s had started disappearing in inner cities (sarcasm).
Just another case of those whacky teens getting their undocumented reparations.

People need to flee from these high minority urban and college communities. As the economy continues to flounder and eventually crash it will become a bloodbath. You’ve been warned. It’s coming.
