Prayers please. Barefoot and in shorts….. I went out to pickup in the garage to retrieve my I pad . Decided to get handgun also….out of the console between seats. Leaned in and got them. Leaning back out and dropped the gun. Landed on the concrete in garage. One in the chamber, not cocked, on safety, and in a holster. It discharged into my left leg about half way between ankle and knee. Broke both bones. I mean completely. Did not hit an artery.
Gun was a 90’s model Springfield 45. It is a P9 series, double/single action, but chambered in 45 caliber. Im in hospital. Suppose to do surgery tomorrow.
So I can cross shooting myself with my own 45 off my bucket list.
Yeah, it hurt bad. Legion of police showed up when wife called 911. Rough ambulance ride to the hospital. I dont recommend this.
Appreciate all prayers. Thank you
Prayers UP !
.
BAD Gun Springfield P9,
Ouch.
Hope you are feeling better today....or high on vicodin...
The ambulance ride is never a pleasant experience
unless one is permitted to sit in the front seat.
When given a choice, choose to shoot yourself in
the foot. It's much less painful, with the exception
of self esteem.
P85 in 9mm was my first auto pistol.
kjam22,
May God bless you and heal you completely.
He is the Great I Am, Whom we trust and obey,
Who knows us inside and out,
Whom we praise and give thanks for the many blessings He gives us,
and to Whom we repent of our sins and errors.
Hear our prayer for our brother, we ask You, Lord,
in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Prayers up - happens to even the most careful from time to time. May God guide the hands of the surgeon and give you a full recovery - except for a dent or 2 as a reminder of how precious life is.
Thanks be to God that you survived, prayers up for your recovery. Now the dressing down: The gun grabbers will use your accident as an excuse to disarm us all!
Gun handlers, be CAREFUL!
Prayers up. Sounds bad...but it could have been worse. A local guy stepped out of his truck a while back, his .357 dropped, went off, and it killed him.
Ping to well wishes at #142.
For myself, I’m praying the surgery is as good as it can possibly be, and your recovery is direct, and complete.
NOTE: Whatever Physical Therapy they give you, DO IT religiously; it makes a difference in the quality and speed of your return to service.
SA/DA trigger, non-decocking safety.
“Safety features are mechanical, so they can, will, and do malfunction.”
This wasn’t a malfunction or mechanical failure. It was a bad, irresponsible design/production choice by Springfield. It was a missing safety feature.
Nothing is perfect, metal can break, but if you are going to drop a gun, you are probably somewhere between a 1,000x and 1,000,000x better off if the gun actually has a firing pin block.
I did say a prayer for your complete recovery too, FRiend...
Oh, no! I’m thankful it wasn’t any worse than it is! Prayers up for a speedy recovery.
I can’t WAIT to hear all the after-stories about how they treated you in the hospital, etc. I’m sure they don’t see this all that often.
Take care. Yikes!
Welcome.
Get better soon
Tough one
Makes me wary, too.
I know I don’t want to shoot anyone. If I’m ever in that situation, It would be bad.
I use a 1911 as my carry.
I hope the sound of me racking the semiauto would be enough to deter them, or at least not have to pull the trigger to save my or a loved one’s life.
I don’t know too much about the P9, but I think it has a pretty light trigger and does not have a grip safety like a 1911.
Also, please replace that P9 as it is not safe as a carry gun
= = =
Carve a notch in the grip, and put it up for sale.
