Hundreds of tractors driven by angry farmers protesting a plan to cut nitrate levels converged on Brussels on Friday, creating major traffic disruption in Belgium's capital city.
The BB farmers union and several others combined efforts to gather more than 2,700 farm vehicles, according to Brussels police.
Several major roads in Brussels were closed and police warned that disruptions could last until the end of the day, recommending that people use public transportation instead of personal cars.
The Flemish regional government is struggling to find a deal to cut nitrate pollution over farmers’ objections that it would put many out of business.
Farmers also claim that their trade has to make much deeper cuts than industry and want to see a more equitable spread. Negotiations have lingered for weeks and weakened the regional government of northern Belgium to breaking point.

Following pressure from green groups the government in Shri Lanka stopped using fertilizer. Between the sudden inability of the local farms to produce sufficient food and the war in Ukraine, Covid, the entire country is starving. Had the government not sabotaged the local farms they undoubtedly would be in better shape than they are.
One of the reasons Hitler started WWII was to achieve autarchy. That is self-sufficiency. The population structure created by the industrial revolution made self-sufficiency almost impossible. Today after the huge increase in population in countries that do not have good farmland and the other inputs; energy, fertilizer, good soil and appropriate climate will starve if they suddenly “go green.” Most of Europe is rich enough to buy farm products from others, but they will raise the prices of those products and help starve those countries like Pakistan, Shri Lanka and other that have population but not the other ingredients to grow crops. Hardly anything we grow today would be productive enough to export without the use of fertilizer.

FWIW - the “government” in Sri Lanka listened to the WEF Ivy-league know-nothing do-gooders. They even offered to use our money (through the UN and other groups) to pay the politicians there to do this in the name of “climate equity” which in realspeak means “we will rape and pillage your country with child slave labor and toxic poison on your lands so that we can feel smug about how “green” we are.”
These people are fools and they will cause even more problems in the future as now they are proposing to block the very sun.

They nationalized the power industry, which is never a way to improve anything. Now they are attempting to adopt the green insanity. They are ceasing the mining of plentiful coal. They already have 12-Hour blackouts, and their power grid is close to collapsing altogether. The resulting looting and civil unrest could lead to civil war. At least South Africa’s carbon footprint will be substantially decreased. The UN will probably vote them an award.
