How solar farms took over the California desert: ‘An oasis has become a dead sea’

Residents feel trapped and choked by dust, while experts warn environmental damage is ‘solving one problem by creating others’ eep in the Mojave desert, about halfway between Los Angeles and Phoenix, a sparkling blue sea shimmers on the horizon. Visible from the I-10 highway, amid the parched plains and sun-baked mountains, it is an improbable sight: a deep blue slick stretching for miles across the Chuckwalla Valley, forming an endless glistening mirror.

But something’s not quite right. Closer up, the water’s edge appears blocky and pixelated, with the look of a low-res computer rendering, while its surface is sculpted in orderly geometric ridges, like frozen waves.

“We had a guy pull in the other day towing a big boat,” says Don Sneddon, a local resident. “He asked us how to get to the launch ramp to the lake. I don’t think he realized he was looking at a lake of solar panels.”

The massive solar project covering 150,000 acres in Mohave desert causes major damage to environment, destroy plants and protected animals. The desert plants can live thousands of years and create underground forests, while removing CO2 and burying it underground. Now all this is destroyed!

The "renewables" cause major environmental destruction, worse than the problem they try to fix!

Things that society will keep paying for as long as people do not realize them:

1) All energy sources have environmental drawbacks and none of them are "clean and renewable". We have to deal with the real trade-offs.

2) Deciding that you are the opposite gender does not make you the opposite gender.

3) There are two genders and they tend to have some important differences.

4) Humans can not create a perfect world, but they can pretend like they are creating one to the peril of all if they get the power to try it.

Gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. It’s all for mother Gaia. They leveled the largest contiguous beech forest on the eastern seaboard for a fleet of eagle choppers that sit idle 70% of the time.

So rather than have a small foot print base load generation plant that can run 24/7 they wipe out the biodiversity of 150,000 acres for 100 year old technology that runs half the time. Who is paying for this? Who is making money?

Not mentioned is control of vegetation under and around the solar mirrors.

Not practical to hire Jesus and his crew to mow and weed eat.

Herbicide would be applied to the entire site location to prevent all plant growth.

Under ground aquifer by way of wells per the link.

These sites need water to clean the glass on a regular schedule and as needed.

I think it can be safely said that the worst environmental atrocities will likely to be committed in the name of “Climate Change”.

Shame on them!

Most people think AZ is all desert. Driving along the 10 fwy most people would think that. But AZ, north of Phoenix, is home to the largest Ponderosa Pine stand on the planet.

Where we are the water does not come from the Colorado and projected well supplies exceeds 100+ years.

projected well supplies

Hence an increase/influx of population, if anyone can solve election fraud

That sounds like a worthwhile place to visit. Thanks for the info.

The area is about 5 miles by 3 miles. There look to be about 2,000,000 solar panels in that valley.
